Regarding things that freak out females, there must be a hundred things some females used to do that freaked me out when I was single. Here is just one of them: Talking about other guys she had dated or was dating.

Whether good or bad, it was always a huge turn-off to me. Here I would be, just wanting to get to know someone who obviously interested me, and give her a chance to get to know me, and I was given info about how other guys had impressed or failed to. It always made me feel like, "Oh oh. What's the message behind the message. Is she so insecure she has to make sure that I know other guys have found her interesting? Since I did, it would not occur to me that others would not. Or, if she praised one or more guys a lot, was she suggesting I was wasting my time, because that guy or those guys were hotter than I was? Or, if she ran them down... that was worse... I've always felt -- when anybody starts running down someone else to me -- that I would be run down when I was the one not with her, and some other guy was.

One thing that endeared me to the love of my life was that, when she and I were together, neither of us felt that we had to do anything but enjoy the time we had together. Neither of us felt a need to impress the other, or brag, or complain, about anybody or anything. There was no pressure, no discomfort. It was just... easy to enjoy the simplest thing together or even walk along not talking about anything much.

But, hey, wait a minute... I'm telling you about someone I dated.

Oh, maybe that's because she married me, and we get along great together. And it's been like that for several years now. Just easy.

But, if anything sad were to happen to her, and I had to get on with life without her, and I were ever to date again... (gosh, I can't even imagine wanting to)... getting acquainted would not be about her. That's a time to be with who you're with, instead of talking about someone you're not with. And, if it were not, then you should not have invited them our, or accepted an invitation, in the first place.

Once a friend told me a girl I had dated only once, and never called again, had told him she really like me, and was hurt because I did not feel the same way she did. I didn't tell my friend this -- because it's personal -- but I knew more about that pretty girl's prior boyfriend than I knew about myself. And I was interested in her, not him.

So, do I talk about the wonderful lady who married me? Of course I do. Why not? She's my date now, twenty-four and seven. And when we are together the most important subject there is, is what's going on between and around us.

As to the other 999 freak-me-outs, just a handful of rules would cover theml all:

Be yourself;
Be pleasant;
Live and let live;
Don't be controlling or gripey; and,
If they mistreat you, or make you feel uncomfortable or unappreciated, or bore you, just tell 'em how you feel. And then do them a favor, and yourself a favor, as well, by not letting there be a next time.

There's only one thing worse than being freaked out on a with a person, and that's being freaked out on a date with that person twice.
