About Me
Engineer by profession; literature afficiando in my spare time.
Reading, writing, gardening, photography, exercise, learning.
All music really. Classical, jazz, blues, rock. Love the Rolling Stones in rock.
My favorites: Dante's Divine Comedy, William Faulkner's Light In August, Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness, DH Lawrence's The Rainbow, Virginia Woolf's To The Lighthouse. Love William Butler Yeats, TS Eliot, and Wallace Stevens in poetry. Well, I do have a master's degree in English literature. ;)
"I believe that man will not merely endure. He will prevail. He is immortal, not because he alone among creatures has an inexhaustible voice, but because he has a soul, a spirit capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance."
~William Faulkner
from "Sailing to Byzantium"
O sages standing in God's holy fire
As in the gold mosaic of a wall,
Come from the holy fire, perne in a gyre,
And be the singing-masters of my soul.
Consume my heart away; sick with desire
And fastened to a dying animal
It knows not what it is; and gather me
Into the artifice of eternity.
~William Butler Yeats,
Final Soliloquy of the Interior Paramour
Light the first light of evening
In which we rest and, for small reason, think
The world imagined is the ultimate good.
This is, therefore, the intensest rendezvous.
It is in that thought that we collect ourselves,
Out of all the indifferences, into one thing:
Within a single thing, a single shawl
Wrapped tightly round us, since we are poor, a warmth,
A light, a power, the miraculous influence.
Here, now, we forget each other and ourselves.
We feel the obscurity of an order, a whole,
A knowledge, that which arranged the rendezvous.
Within its vital boundary, in the mind.
We say God and the imagination are one...
How high that highest candle lights the dark.
Out of this same light, out of the central mind,
We make a dwelling in the evening air,
In which being there together is enough.
~Wallace Stevens
from "Ash Wednesday,"
Lady, three white leopards sat under a juniper-tree
In the cool of the day, having fed to satiety
On my legs my heart my liver and that which had been contained
In the hollow round of my skull. And God said
Shall these bones live? shall these
Bones live? And that which had been contained
In the bones (which were already dry) said chirping:
Because of the goodness of this Lady
And because of her loveliness, and because
She honours the Virgin in meditation,
We shine with brightness. And I who am here dissembled
Proffer my deeds to oblivion, and my love
To the posterity of the desert and the fruit of the gourd.
It is this which recovers
My guts the strings of my eyes and the indigestible portions
Which the leopards reject. The Lady is withdrawn
In a white gown, to contemplation, in a white gown.
Let the whiteness of bones atone to forgetfulness.
There is no life in them. As I am forgotten
And would be forgotten, so I would forget
Thus devoted, concentrated in purpose. And God said
Prophesy to the wind, to the wind only for only
The wind will listen. And the bones sang chirping
With the burden of the grasshopper, saying
Lady of silences
Calm and distressed
Torn and most whole
Rose of memory
Rose of forgetfulness
Exhausted and life-giving
Worried reposeful
The single Rose
Is now the Garden
Where all loves end
Terminate torment
Of love unsatisfied
The greater torment
Of love satisfied
End of the endless
Journey to no end
Conclusion of all that
Is inconclusible
Speech without word and
Word of no speech
Grace to the Mother
For the Garden
Where all love ends.

Hi ((Manny)),
((MUCH THANKS)), I thank God it wasn't a real bullet too, but if it was real, I wouldn't have been there with helping my police friends in the first place. :-) There was so much on my mind before and after the training that I didn't even think about putting ice on it, so now it is a bit too late for that and I have a light bruise above the wound. I am a slow healer, and so it is going to continue to be annoying for me to have to take care of the pressure and/or stress I put on this hand while it is healing. I still often feel a light pain from it, and I assuming the pain is from the bone that got struck by the shot the most. I have a police friend, of another police division in my area, who I have been talking to since the event about it. He told me that if I had wore leather gloves or winter gloves through it, then the injury wouldn't be nearly as bad from it. I'll be remembering the gloves if I should decide to help my police group in this type of training again; as of this moment, I am still debating on the issue, and my hand has a lot to do with this decision making for me.
This week has been slow for me so far, thank God, and I have been getting things back to normalism again, which this includes rest and relaxtion such as taking a time to read a chapter of a book that I am almost half way done reading. :-) I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving with your loved ones too ((Manny)). We should have a nice one here, for we have plenty of good food to share should we have any guests here to help us celebrate it, particuarly in mind my teenage daughter who now lives with her boyfriend.
Take care, God Bless, & Much Love, Julie

Thanks Marlow. In tough times, the independent contractors do best since it's flat, hourly rate with no benefits, no commitment to overhead. Being on medicare is a blessing. Right now, my daughter & I have joined forces to form a bookkeeping firm that works off-site for small businesses. Busier than I ever thought we'd be!

Hi ((Manny)),
Thank you. I haven't been in here for the past few days, for it has been a very busy and most interesting week for me. I am really glad though that everything worked out well enough in the end. I got to hang out with my SCA friends this past week; I got to see my Uncle and Aunt from Arkansas whom I hadn't seen since the first week of March in 1991 for my dad's funeral; my Uncle is his brother. My place needing some cleaning up to do, so that took a bit of my time, along with my walking to the store to buy some extra food for them. It is most unfortunate that they couldn't longer than they planned on, but their youngest child's son, about 2 months old, has been having seizures, and the last I heard the doctor couldn't figure out what was causing it. I also had to spend a lot of time preparaing myself mentally, spiritually, and emotionally for the training I had with my police group this past Tuesday's evening. My police group got the civilians to help them trained at a high school for those violent crimes that happens at places such as schools, malls, airports and hospitals. I got a lot of healing from it from the losses I have had in my past through the abuse of guns, but I got the healing with a slight but mostly just annoying cost to it, I got shot, unplanningly, by another civilian, as she was going after a "bad guy" in the training. They used Airsoft pellets, and it is about an inch below my pinkie finger of my right hand, slightly on the side to it, is where I got hit at; there is a light bruise right above it. There isn't much between the skin and bone there, so I am still feeling the mostly annoying pain from it. I didn't bleed, but you can still pretty easily see where I was hit at by the gun. It kind of looks like a sole spot of someone who has the shingles; something I have had before on the left side of my chest back in 1999/2000. Things should be pretty slow for me for at least the rest of the month of November. :-)
Take care, God Bless & Love always,
Julie

I've been on SH less since I'm now back to work nearly full time. Gotta get some money to help me weather the economy. I'm trying to be a bit more picky about what I respond to on SH as a result. And I haven't the time to look as deeply into issues.
How are you doing? Still fighting the good fight, I assume. We will see each other around, I'm sure.
I don't like the new SH look so much, some of the buttons like to disappear on me. And I do a lot of accidental raves because the respond button was moved to the bottom right, just above the rave button of the next respondent. Growl...
