About Me

I am a LAN Infrastructure Project Manager, instrument-rated private pilot and saltwater fisherman.

My main blog is housed at: US for Palin. My blog here is a replication of the main one.

Opinions expressed on this blog are solely the responsibility of the author and any guest authors whose material is posted here. This blog is not authorized or operated by Governor Palin, her staff, or any other candidate or committee.

I'd like to meet

Fellow Sarah Palin supporters; those who share my other interests or professional networking. I'm married and NOT seeking romantic encounters or dating.

Activities

Flying aiplanes (currently Cessna 172s and when I can't, I use FSX and X-Plane to stay proficient), saltwater fishing, political campaigns and causes, video editing my wife's ballet series and working two jobs.

Interests

Aviation: I'm a private pilot with an instrument rating and have been flying Cessna 172s since January 2002. I use Microsoft FSX and X-Plane 9.0 to stay proficient during downtime between real flights.

Fishing: I'm a saltwater fisherman, targeting striped bass and bluefish locally. I frequently travel to Mexico with my wife, there I have caught sailfish, dorado, and baby tuna; and took a road trip to Marathon and Key West, where I caught grouper and shark.

Computers: I'm a computer geek by trade and by hobby. By vocation, I design and oversee CAT-5e and fiber optic LAN cabling jobs; size and specify battery backup units and automatic transfer switches; as well as design, oversee and install indoor and outdoor WiFi LANs.

At home, I have built a 5-node LAN consisting of one XP box (for flight simulation and video editing), and boxes running OpenSUSE, PCLinuxOS, TinyMe and Mandriva. I've been working with computers since the Commodore VIC-20 days.

I'm video-editing my wife's ballet instruction series, "Elsy Dance And..." which airs on Manhattan Neighborhood Network Fridays at 4:30 PM.

Exercise/Fitness: Something I should be more consistent at; ;-), but I use an elliptical for cardio; lift free weights; and have boxing sessions with an 80-lb heavy bag and a speed bag.

Favorite Music

Eclectic, but I mainly can't leave the 80's and 70s. I can literally listen to Madonna, then Mozart. I like anything with a hard-driving beat; good guitar work; and good piano work.

Favorite TV Shows

Currently: Science and Military channels; World Fishing Network; Seinfeld; and ... yes...cartoons. Back in the '80s I was a big Miami Vice and S.W.A.T. fan

Favorite Movies

Apollo 13, The Aviator, The Right Stuff...and way too many vigilante, cop/robber, and war movies. I enjoy almost anything featuring a rugged individual who overcomes the odds.

In the comedy genre, I regard Animal House as the best movie ever made. Feeling bad? Pop in the DVD and two hours later you'll be a whole new human being. :-)

Favorite Books

None in quite a long time unfortunately. Most of my reading is manuals, "how-tos, " and on the Internet. Last book I read for pleasure was Atlas Shrugged -- 17 years ago! Of the required readings in school, I enjoyed the The Old Man and the Sea, The Odyssey, and Moby Dick. If I were to read for pleasure once more, my first choice would most likely be almost anything by Ernest Hemingway.

Books I read for pleasure in my youth: just about anything by Laura Ingalls-Wilder (portrayed on Little House on the Prairie Joseph Wambaugh's cop books; Blood Fued (About Jimmy Hoffa); and Condominium by John D. MacDonald.

Favorite Quotes

“I really don't know why it is that all of us are so committed to the sea, except I think it's because in addition to the fact that the sea changes, and the light changes, and ships change, it's because we all came from the sea. And it is an interesting biological fact that all of us have, in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and, therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea -- whether it is to sail or to watch it -- we are going back from whence we came.”

-President John F. Kennedy

Favorite Heroes

Real Life -- Immediate Sphere: My wife -- Elsy, who stuck with me through good and bad times throughout our marriage; my uncle, William E. Thomas who is the father figure in my life and was recommended for the Silver Star in WWII (the recommendation was lost and we're trying to back-trace it); my mother who never gave up despite her hard times; Kenneth Lloyd Gardner and Herbert Belton (deceased) -- the men who engineered a Twin Towers-based replacement for NYC's WTC site. Their project is not being built; however.

Real Life Current -- Outside my Immediate Sphere: Sarah Palin, and Captain C.B. Sully Sullenberger, US Airways.

Real Life Past: Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, JFK, Harry Truman, Teddy Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson; John Glenn, Buzz Aldrin, Alan Shepard, Chuck Yeager, The Wright Brothers, Thomas Alva Edison, Sir Isaac Newtown, Bernhard Goetz, Joan of Arc.

Fictional: Dirty Harry (Clint Eastwood), Paul Kersey (played by Charles Bronson in the Death Wish series); Actors: John Wayne, Jackie Chan, Chuck Norris.
