Bailout For Porn Industry: Is Pornography Worth Our Tax Dollars?
I think a 5 billion dollar bailout plan...
... is absolutely preposterous!!! What next, a bailout plan for kiddy-pornographers?! Or pole dancers? (Their tips must surely be down.) How about a stimulus package of $1,000 bills for every American male over 18 to slip under the G-strings of lap dancers? Gimme a f****ing break! -

Fred Thompson Rents Out D.C. Apartment: Is Thompson unpatriotic?
Thompson is renting out his apartment during Obama's inauguration....
... like almost everyone else I know in the immediate Washington metro area. Keep in mind, the Ritz-Carlton is charging $20,000/wk, and they don't have a balcony overlooking the parade route. Even 200-sq-ft efficiency apts are going for $1,000/night or more! -

Inaugural alternatives in DC?
I suggest you stretch your legs at....
... my former backyard, Washington Channel Park, off Maine Ave & 4th St, SW. It's has lovely riverfront walking paths and benches, the Titanic Memorial (yes, really!), and right next door is the docking for 2 sightseeing boats, the Odyssey and the... uh... [brain fart]. The marina next door to that docks FDR's baby, the Presidential yacht. Don't get your hopes up, though; this time of yr, it's usually still be under a big, blue tarp. If you proceed further in that direction, there are several nice restaurants, and finally, the famous Washington fish market, although I heard rumors it was slated to close. Maybe it already has. Safety? Not to worry, there's a police substation right in the park. Enjoy! http://www.roadsideamerica.co... By the way, do not be confused: This is the less well-known park near Fort McNair and across the street from the Waterfront SEU Metro station. There's a "Waterfront Park" in Georgetown, which is 'way the hell on the other side of town in NW. -
Chantel Hobbs Diet Ditcher: What's your excuse?

How would you mediate Christian-Atheist arguments to better facilitate intelligent discussion?
I consider myself a Christian and this is my suggestion:
Amen to that! Thank you for this. I'm grateful not to be the only one here pleading for civil discourse. Name-calling and insults do not advance understanding, and retaliation merely escalates hostilities. The practice of "flaming" has become pervasive on discussion boards everywhere. In our relative anonymity, it's easy to fire off a slur we wouldn't have the courage, the bad manners or the unkindness to say to someone's face. To fellow Christians I would say, practice your Christianity here, too: Turn the other cheek when insulted. Forgive. Speak your truth, but respond to everyone with compassion, and honor their innate human dignity even when they don't seem to deserve it in that moment. Jesus would. Also remember that God is non-denominational, that many non-Christians live exemplary lives according to principles you would recognize as Christian although they might not call it that. We all, whether religious, atheist, and "unchurched," can agree on so much. Justice, fairness and respect for each others' rights are a good place to start. -
What the hell does china have hanging over our heads that keeps us buying there crap in every shape and form???
None of the above
Have you tried finding something that isn't labeled "Made in China" lately? A couple of years ago, I tried to and was flabbergasted to find that, in every category, there were few if any alternatives at all. -
Who is your favorite painter?
It is....
Excellent question, Johnny! Thanks for the chance to focus on beauty rather than contention for a change. Hmm, like writers and filmmakers, I have about 100 finalists for "favorite" artist. My favorite art form is ukiyo-e, the Japanese 18th- and 19th-century woodblock prints translated as "pictures from the floating world". Although they're not paintings per se, their revolutionary compositions did strongly influenced the French Impressionists. My favorite ukiyo-e artist is probably Utamaro:
Of painters, Goya comes to mind right now
and Vuillard
