About Me
I used to frequent this site back in the day, but professional and personal matters made me decide to leave that behind. I am now back here out of both curiosity and at the urging of some of my friends who still frequent this little bastion of passive agressive enabling. My educational background is as follows
2009- Bachelor of Science- Criminal Justice Administration- University of Kansas
2012- Masters of Science- Criminology and Public Safety - University of Kansas
{excerpts from my masters thesis "Agenda Setting: Violent Crime Statistics and Public Perception" were published in Public Opinion Quarterly and can be found on Ebsco Host}
Beginning Fall 2013 (or maybe Spring 2013) Doctorate of Criminology- University of Michigan.
I have worked in law enforcement in numerous capacities over the last 5 years. Notably, as an intern with an FBI field office, administrative support for the County Sheriff's Office, and (most recently) with the Special Investigations Unit for the US District Attorney.

I'd like to meet
Virtually anyone new is of a interest to me, but I am also a human being and have particularities that just come with being me. Generally speaking, the uneducated and flaming homosexuals have the tendency to get on my nerves. If that makes me a bad person, so be it, but at least I do not hide behind the guise of being acceptable to all. I am more interested in being acceptable to myself.
Activities
Aside from what I previously mentioned, I like online gaming, working out when I can find the time, wandering aimlessly, consuming great deals of caffeine, tattoo art, and of course women. If I have one fatal flaw, or Achilles heel if you will, it would certainly be the ladies.
I used to a fairly politically active individual, but those activities are much lees pronounced these days. 2 reasons for this:
A) I do not have time
B) It could have potential career implications for me.
That said, I despise Obama and everything he stands for (just in case there is any ambiguity)
My interests are sorted as my brain appears to have a difficult time
settling on any particular subject matter. However, I do enjoy reading a great deal, so long as it is not the science fiction and fantasy that seems to pollute the book shelves of late. Philosophy and history are my favorite areas of non-academic reading and I have a particular affinity for the works of Kant, Kipling, Rousseau, Maslow, and Rand.

Interests
I an decidedly anti-establishment and anti-federal government infringement as I see them as entities on control of both thought and practice. Many consider my this surprising considering my background, but needless intrusion into the lives of citizens causes more problems than it solves. I am willing to listen to nearly everyone's life perspective, but I despise being told what is, and is not, socially normative behavior. Anyone that knows me well also knows I hold little back when it comes to expressing myself. I detest political correctness, all things superficial, and the overall lack of backbone that seems to pollute our society.
Favorite Music
Music and art take up a great deal of my non-academic time, and I am fortunate that Lawrence has a wonderful and accommodating scene for such endeavors. The artistically creative and the surreal has always fascinated me. Not that I am a creative person, because I am not, I just seem to have people that are gravitate towards me. This is helpful because there is only a certain amount of knowledge that can be acquired from the library stacks.
Favorite TV Shows
I do not really watch much TV. The vast majority of contemporary television shows are almost an insult to my intelligence.
Favorite Movies
Movies I do enjoy, but my tastes are particular. I tend to like what are your typical "guy movies". Specifically, ones that involve gratuitous violence, sex, explosions, and a high body count. When I am not looking for pure stimulation value, I prefer films that have substance. That is the dichotomy of me.
Boondock Saints,Crank, Hitman, Max Payne, Blade, Resident Evil, Army of Darkness, Blade Runner, On the Waterfront,Swordfish, Wanted, All 3 in the Jason Bourne Trilogy, 3:10 to Yuma (I like both versions with a slight preference for the 1950's version), North by Northwest,The Conformist, The Bridge on the River Kwai, Pulp Fiction, Shooter, and The Maltese Falcon, just to name a few but If you wanted to see a list of films I enjoy, I could go on for days.

Favorite Books
I am an avid reader, be it academic or otherwise. Some of the stuff I like is as follows:
The Karamazov Brothers, Animal Farm, The Great Gatsby (I have read it 12 times), The Invisible Man, The Critique of Pure Reason, Leviathan, Catch-22. Anarchy, State and Utopia, The Fountainhead, Atlas Shrugged and In Defense of Freedom.
Literature wise, I have always thought it best to learn the classics. If there is one almost universal truth to literature, it is that somebody else has already said it before, and better, long ago.

Those are some pretty impressive credentials! Sounds like a heckuva' full schedule, to boot. I'll bet the law enforcement field has been an eye-opener, just in dealing with the public and the criminal types and all, I know it was for my cousin - he's a state cop in Maryland (he loves it though).

I certainly don't 'd think your ego is OVERLY-inflated, but if it IS holding somewhere close to its recommended maximum psi, I'd say given your recent letter of acceptance coupled with your second- and sometimes first-in-command county position and everything else you've got on your plate, you have a little bit to be egotistical about these days! ;)
I found my groove with that tune (great song!)... as for my awesome... eh, I dunno. Maybe a little. :)
first of all, congratulations on your academic pursuit and admission into the criminology program - that is terrific ... this country can use all the brains that G-d has given its citizens and you're showing gratitude for the gift by embracing it and using it for good
secondly, i don't do criminal work, smart aleck, and i want the bad guys thrown into the slammer (and i don't want innocent guys thrown into the slammer just because it's more expedient for law enforcement and politicians) - if you're good, you'll regard truth and justice as more important than a bunch of convictions
lastly, i don't suck up to anyone or anything ...
i want peace too, just not "peace at any price" ... i love a good argument, but i value intelligence and learning more ...
again: congratulations and do good work. feel free to deal with me as much as you feel like ... i'll welcome the dialogue ...
when do you start?
I always had you pegged as someone who would eventually have those three letters after his name. I'm someone who loves learning, too, as you know -- I'm a bookworm -- but the more I learn on my own, the deeper my respect for those who go about a systematic, disciplined program and take the inordinate amount of time to obtain credentials seems to run. A PhD is quite an undertaking.
Good luck, and keep me posted. Michigan is an excellent school!
That's awesome, man. I'm glad to see you back.
Good to see you back.
In any case if you feel like it post your thoughts here. I have answered several questions similar to this one recently and I find myself wavering each time. (not usual for me) That's why I'm curious to hear other people's thoughts.
Chris
