About Me

I'm just another middle-class WASP (mostly), who is blamed for all the ills of the world. Well, I know what yer thinkin': He's a beer-guzzlin' Dubya-lovin' Right-Wing Christian, blah, blah, blah...Not quite true, although I am conservative politically, and, to a degree, socially. I consider myself an independent, although my 'progressive" children would call me a right wing Republican Christian conservative. I don't view myself so bleakly. I think I might be a bit to the right of Attila the Hun politically, but look at all the good he did.....

Activities

Since I'm retired and pretty much a caregiver at this point for my wife, I don't get out much. We do travel when possible. We went to France in September 2008. I wanted to see the Normandy landing beaches, and my wife wanted us both to see Paris, so we combined the two goals, driving to Normandy and staying in a B&B; then we drove to Paris for three days where we renewed our vows under the Eiffel Tower. All this without speaking a word of French---German seemed inappropriate, as did Swedish. European traveling is really our activity when we can scrape together the money to do it. If I ever win the lottery, we will buy an alpine chalet in the mountains of Austria near Salzburg.

Interests

I collect WWII militaria, and am involved in various on-line discussion groups of military antiques. Well, it keeps me outta the bars. I enjoy the study of language. I studied Germanic languages in college, and have always been fascinated with regional dialects. I enjoy traveling, and have done so in Europe. I hitch-hiked extensively in Germany in the late 1960s, and used my thumb from Sweden through Norway, to Germany in 1969.
