Yosemite Deaths: One Boy Drowns, Another Missing In Merced River. Have You Ever Vacationed A Dangerous Place?

Yes, in Yosemite, in 1972. And I once stayed in New York overnight.

I snow and water ski on vacation, even spent many days at Yosemite, and backpacking in the high country outside of the park in the Yosemite Wilderness (watch out for bears)... and even ...

I'm sorry that the boys were lost in the Merced River, but people... it's water... watch your kids (the pool, the bathtub, the quick running, snow fed rivers especially). There is NO deceit swimming in Yosemite... it's ALL cold and swift.

That's, in a way, a relative question - some people would think going to Israel/Jerusalem, yet I never, ever did not feel safe..........

That teenage boy that went missing in Yosemite for 3 days, and then wandered back into camp several months ago was my co-worker's son. And to make matters worse, my co-worker and his wife were on vacation in Taiwan when it happened, so they were thousands of miles away totally freaking out. We were just so glad he made it back to camp alive and well. Turns out he had just decided to go look for edible vegetation (as is his hobby) and didn't realize he'd wandered off so far. He was only 2-3 miles from his camp, but that terrain is so complex and dense, it could have been 20 miles away...

I've vacationed in the exact same place that this family did, and played in the Merced River, and climbed to the top of Vernal Falls in the summer. I'm pretty sure, however, that the snowfall from the preceding winter was not as great, because the river wasn't quite a full as it is now.

I'm really not interested in excitement for entertainment. My idea is seeing a different country or lazing on a wonderful beach at a resort.
