Yemen’s Nobel Prize winner Karman paid tribute to Arab women and their struggles "in a society dominated by the supremacy of men”. Doesn't Allah Himself want women to be the property of men?

No, Allah doesn’t want women to be the property of men+21Where to begin? Women in traditional Muslim societies are so oppressed. Honor killings, where fathers (sometimes brothers) kill their daughters (or sisters) because they are not demur enough, wear western clothing, want to get an education and follow a profession usually male, DATE, HAVE SEX before marriage, date or marry a boy of another religion or sect, or even be suspected of doing one of these things. FGM, Female Genital Mutilation, where the clitoris and labia minora are cut off a young girl (not an infant), usually by an old woman using a piece of broken glass . This was learned from the Coptic Christians of Ethiopia who in turn learned in from the Falasha Jews, but today the vast majority of those doing it are Muslims in Somalia, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sudan, Chad, Niger, Nigeria, Mali, Senegal, Guinea, Sierra Leone, etc. Discrimination in education, occupation, dress, etc., is rampant. Please see and support the Petition to End Domestic Violence in the Muslim World.

If there was a choice between being a blasphemer and an ignoramus, I'd rather be a blasphemer. Faith should never triumph over science.
Harriet, I too support you and your work for our women.

I want to be clear that this does not mean that Islam is generally true or that Muhammad was generally truthful. Muhammad was a pedophile, polygamist, fraud, murderer, robber, rapist, etc., and Islam is a very sick, bad religion. But Muhammad did steal many ideas from Christianity and Judaism, so there are many things he said which are right. The place of women is one where he was right. We Evangelical Christians, following the teachings of St Paul in the Bible, believe the same.
Here is a beautiful sermon on the roles of husband and wife: http://www.tldm.org/news7/Bib...
""But I would have you know, that the head [i.e., authority (Jdg. 11:10; Eph. 1:22)] of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God [Therefore, no inferiority is implied in submissiveness, only different God-ordained roles.]. Every man praying or prophesying with his head covered, disgraceth his head. But every woman praying or prophesying with her head not covered, disgraceth her head: for it is all one as if she were shaven. For if a woman be not covered, let her be shorn. But if it be a shame to a woman to be shorn or made bald, let her cover her head. The man indeed ought not to cover his head, because he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of the man. For the man is not of the woman, but the woman of the man. For the man was not created for the woman, but the woman for the man. Therefore ought the woman to have a power over her head, because of the angels." (1 Corinthians 11: 3-10)"

So, in this case, Muhammad was quoting St Paul in ordaining that the wife should obey her husband and that she should keep her hair covered, so in this case Islam is right because it stole its teaching from Christianity. Note that it is man that is created in the image of God, but woman is created only to satisfy the needs of man.
