Anders Breivik played violent video games a lot. He also murdered 77 people in Norway. Can we draw a conclusion from those two data points? I know many people who play lots of violent video games and haven't murdered anyone.

Norwegian anthropologist Thomas Hylland Eriksen said, "He does not seem to be very successful at distinguishing between the virtual reality of 'World of Warcraft' and other video games and reality."

Anders Breivik used the alias "Andersnordic" to blame the maker of the video game for his obesity, baldness and pale complexion.Anders Breivik, the right-wing extremist who has confessed to killing 77 people during a murder spree in Norway last summer, played the violent computer game World of Warcraft nearly seven hours a day for several consecutive months before his attack, prosecutors say.

What video games did Jack the Ripper play? The Son of Sam used to leave Partridge Family tapes playing in cars of his victims and I'm still waiting to respond to the poll...

perhaps they can enhance a pre-existing condition, but not create it.
Even the first one is just an assumption

Murder has been around a lot longer than video games. And World of Warcraft is pretty tame.

Could be the other way around. A person with violent tendencies and a lack of distinction between reality and fantasy is likely to seek out entertainment that matches that. While the vast majority of stable people just play for pleasure and a bit of light relief from daily stress.

There are numerous examples of similar habits creating psychopathic behavior. Recall that Eric Harris and his partner spent their every waking hour in the basement not only playing such violent games but actually designing and programming them. Eric's father
was employed to develop such things. Coincidence? They can't all be just "coincidences".

Dr Pavlov proved how even the most basic intelligence could be programmed to respond to a repeated stimulus. How much more could a higher level of intelligence be trained to respond to specific stimulus? Duh. Why do we train pilots, surgeons, and pianists by repeating the same things over and over in order to gain responses precisely to given commands? Yea, that's how it works, children, that's how a lot of things we could do without work today, responses to someone's repetitions that makes a few dollars of profit or causes a particular reaction.

IF playing games caused people to kill (as a sole reason) there wouldn't be a great many people left in te world and those who were would be highly repressed individuals.

Look, children have been playing games that involved "killing" from the begining of society. primitive man played games of hunting and warfare, later man played games of combat and weapon skill building and we all played games like cowboy and indian, cops and robbers and GI Joe. When kids turned to video games and became less socially interactive the skill sets changed but the goals never did.

Look I have seen children and even adults get into fit fights over board games or card games. Violent tendiencies are not created by games but the lack of social interation videos allow can mitigate a person's ability to understand what is and is not socially acceptable. If you do not have to learn how to give up some of your desires and needs in order to fit in with teh desired group then you never lean to accept others as having a value equal to your own

I killed like 100 zomies playing "Dead Island" last night. I killed like 200 terrorist, or people I just didn't like shooting at me in "Modern Warfare3" day before yesterday & around the same number of kills in "Battlefield3" just the day before that. I blew up cars & ran over spectators about a week ago playing "Twisted Metal". Granted I've not played a single one of those titles for 7 hours straight. But I definitly did me some murdering.

It's not the violence of the game that led him to murder. It's that he spent 7 hours a day alone, isolated and distant from the world playing a game that simply wasn't real and couldn't make up for the profound deficit he had with the real world.

I do believe violent video games CAN exacerbate and encourage someone who all ready has the propensity to be violent to fulfill any twisted fantasies they might have.

A lot of people play violent video games nowadays. It isn't that surprising that someone who ends up being a murderer has also played violent video games.

And WoW isn't really that violent.

Crazy and violent people cause murder. Not games, books, music, TV, radio, guns, knives, or anything else. Crazy violent people will commit murder regardless of the media or tools that are around them.

Literally millions of people play violent video games and a lot of them play several hours a day, yet the vast majority of them aren't committing murders, allowing themselves to get obese nor shunning the sunlight.
