It was on the front page of CNN as of yesterday, so I don't think it's being ignored. Akins remarks just took center stage as well they should have.

CNN? That means about 10 people saw it, then. And you consider that someones "remarks" should be center stage over a man taking a 17 year old boy to a rest area and molesting him? And, please save the age of consent routine; a 17 year old is just that, a kid, a kid who was taken advantage of by a pervert. Stop and think about this: how would you feel if something like that happened to your 17 year old Son?
  • Tresa snipe 2012/08/21 16:44:04

According to Akin, Ryan and a few 100 other GOPer's this crime doesn't pass the muster as a "legitimate" rape (since there was no overt violence)...or at least it wouldn't for a woman. This is exactly why the "remarks" of a man should take center stage because his remarks are trying to redefine, and in my opinion, lessen the severity of rape.

Gauthier should face charges and no decent person should even consider voting for him again. I also feel the same way about Akin and Ryan due to their stance on redefining rape.
  • snipe Tresa 2012/08/21 19:43:14

Well, you implied in your original comment that Akin's "words" were worse than Gauthier's actions, I was merely dissgreeing with your premise. Sure, words can hurt, but once Akin's gone, and no one even remembers who he is, his words will be forgotten, too. But, what was done to that Boy may haunt him for the rest of his life.

You are nothing but a repugnant fool. To libel Ryan and the GOP this way is despicable. Ryan said NOTHING of the sort. Most Conservatives I know would want the DEATH penalty for rapists.

REMEMBER, it was the Democrats that passed the accurately nicknamed 'Pedophile Protection Act' S-909.
Why is it that the Democrat constituents push for lowering the age of consent for children?

Thanks to liberal policies, one can no longer condemn middle-aged men for fondling teenage boys. The age of consent in Minnesota is 16. Gay sex has been declared utterly harmless and perfectly natural. This means that Kerry Gauthier did nothing wrong in the liberal mind.

Todd Aikens is a neanderthal who should be beat with an IUD ... but the Dem engaging in oral sex with a 17-year-old-young man is disgusting and should be prosecuted as child abuse.

later: if the 17-year-old was legally an adult, then it's not child sexual abuse, but just stupid public lewdness ... i don't know what the criminal punishment is for that

Gauthier's crime seems to have simple public lewdness, because the fact that the boy was 17 placed him above the Minnesota age of consent. If Gauthier had done it on TV, then perhaps it would have equal "exposure" within the State of Minnesota.

As it was, however, I believe that Akins' "legitimate rape" comment was much more newsworthy for three reasons:

    1. The actions of State legislators are inherently less newsworthy than actions of members of Congress. Gauthier's actions may have been a local/statewide scandal at most.

    2. His apparent ignorance of basic biology was more egregious due to his membership on the House Committee on Science.

    3. He seemed to add insult to injury against ALL women by suggesting there actually was such a thing as "legitimate" rape. (The "injury" being unconditional denial of abortion.)

I knew I would be hearing from you. Thanks for PROVING my point. Always giving excuses for the perverted behavior of Democrats, but if a Republican says something STUPID while trying to explain that it's NEVER the baby's fault and abortion is wrong, you want to hang him high. The double standard stands.

My, what an ACTIVE imagination! Jump to conclusions much? Exactly where did I make any "excuses for the perverted behavior of Democrats"? Please identify them EXACTLY!

Jumping to conclusions seems to be quite common in the fantasyland of the right-wing blogosphere. Such conclusions are drawn despite other likely explanations for the evidence presented. In the world of disinformation, speculation is misrepresented as fact.

When asked to substantiate their conclusions, we may encounter bluster, red herrings, and ad hominem attacks more often than rational, focused answers. Military Intelligence students are quickly disabused of such behavior, and learn the value of supporting every conclusion they proffer. Researchers at the Rand Corporation and other highly regarded research institutions often come from such rigorous backgrounds, where conclusions are based on empirical evidence, rather than wishful thinking. It's a pity that blogosphere researchers and commentators are not held to similar high standards of accuracy.

perversion and political sides have nothing to do with each other. First off, what you are saying is that you would rather see sensationalism and exploitation of a crime taking precedence over a politician offending half of the US with his ignorance about violent sex crimes and how they should work in favor of making the victim suffer because of religious beliefs of a minority of American... I am sure that if Akins had timed his ignorant remarks at a more convenient time you would have your 24hr sex scandal at the price of ruining a 17 yrs life. Good going zbacku. I bet you are a good christian that christ himself would be ashamed that you even use his name to associate your perverse blood lust with

thanks for cherry picking. Did I say that he had nothing to do with ruining his life? OR are you just scavenging for blood? If the boy was left out of the media sensationalism that you crave, he would not be recognized, he would have a chance to move on. he would not be that guy that people whisper about behind his back because they had seen his face plastered all over the TV. What double standard is there in that? And how is your point proven?

My statement is based on clear observation. Stinny Hoyer, member of the House of representatives was charged with having sex with a very young House paige, (normaly teenagers). democrats refused to prosecute him and even praised him on the House floor after the vote.

Barney Franks live in lover was charged with operating a prostitution ring in Franks own home. In spit of evidence the charges just... went away.

I don't think my statement is so far fetched as all that.

Humanity? Good question. Ask the fourth estate where they buried it.

bulls eye on back? sounds like a case of the whines. It has nothing to do with political affiliation. politicians in general are power hungry and most of them are sociopaths and psychopaths (read the psychopath test for more insight on that) the news doesn't cover it often because mostly it has minors attached to it, and even though FOX news claims that there is no civility or morals outside of itself, most news organizations have steered clear of high profille underage sex cases because it does more damage to the victims (a lesson the learned in the 80s and 90s) the only time you hear about it now is because some unscrupulous political gain can be made.

Boy, I sure burned your biscuts, didn't I? Are they in office now? Are republicans making excusses for their behavior? Is the media?

If they did this stuff, and it's proven in court, then lock their asses up.

Hell, if children were involved I'll tie the rope on them myself. Will you do the same?
I never made a claim that people who commit these acts don't deserve to be punished. I said he will be a media hero. I'll be suprised if he goes to trial. But I would prefere to see anyone who does these acts on children hung by a rope in public.
  • Blessed... Dwight-... 2012/08/21 04:55:11

I said that it was a shame that you would consider that someone that was not a republican would naturally celebrate molesting a child. You did make that point above. To assume that no one but people that follow your political leader is an outright pervert or criminal only shows that you have no grasp on reality, I hear this drink the kool aid statement from your people all the time but you have just given a fine example of how much kool aid you have actually drank and even your excuse above shows that you don't even understand that your view is warped un inhuman lacking compassion. You still seem to be representing that only people of your political following know the difference between right and wrong. that is a very sad thing. I feel bad for you and people that follow your party because it seems that it is a bit of a common practice with the social conservatives lately... you should step back and question the people who have put you in this state and if they are really worthy of being followed.

And they did that when they refused to convict Stinney Hoyer in the house, then praised him on the Floor. Could you make paragraphs, it's easier to read rants that way.

I take nothing back, and I can see you are already prepaired to defend this man using any means at hand. Your perversity is outstanding in its singular willingness to defend a pervert.

I already stated that if children are involved I would tie the rope for public hanging and you still think I'm defending someone? talk about a lack of compassion. You may well "feel compassion" for his victim, but are defending the criminal.
  • Blessed... Dwight-... 2012/08/21 06:54:01
    Blessed Sheep Gone Wild!
I am not defending him at all in any way. i am stating that it isn't news worthy. we should let it stay at a local level and let the law take care of it. when minors involved, the damage done by making it a national issue and a political issue is far worse in the long run.
And insisting that it be made more important a news item than a congressman making ignorant statements about rape... I find that criminal.
