I had a couple of friends like that but they disowned me because I wasn't voting for the great pretender. Not really as big a loss as I thought it would be.

I'm progressive, with several conservative, even tea party friends. Do we disagree? Of course. But we also have the ability to get past that and find things in common. We don't make assumptions like the ones you seem to make here. Get over yourselves. Politics are personal and don't automatically define a person. Not all conservatives are ignorant, not all liberals are moochers. Oftentimes, a persons political views are complicated. It makes me sad how divided the country really is, that certain people can't even acknowledge someone they disagree with. Thats sad.

NO! While President Bush was in the White House, we were 'friends' with a couple, though we NEVER discussed politics in the 6 months we knew each other until one evening they were in our home and the husband went off on Bush, blaming him for 9-11, the Enron crises, a Jew lover, etc. First we tried to steer the conversation away from Bush and his anti-Semitic rant (even when told I am Jewish), with no success. We were forced to ask them to leave and decided that further 'friendship' was not needed.

.... as long as they left their politics outside the door before they came in. Actually I have several good friends that fall into that category but we all agree politics and religion are kept out of our togethers .

I have not problem allowing a progressive into my house. I dare say I am willing to listen and consider what they have to say. I do no kid myself because I know the progressive will not listen nor consider my position. That is part of the progressive personality they are not open minded in a progressive way.

I have good friends who are Liberals,I am trying to maintain our friendship by keeping a safe distance for the time being thats how I've decided to handle it for now.
