This isn't the first time auto-makers have tried to design a motorcycle-car hybrid, but as "Top Gear" showed us a few years back, the Reliant Robin was hardly practicle. We really hope Lit Motors Inc. improved on that, because they're attempting to develop a new breed of motorcycle-car hybrids. Fortunately, developers say it'll take a baby elephant to knock this one over.

The Lit C-1 is technically a motorcycle, as it runs on two wheels, but has a chassis that looks a lot like a smart car. The vehicle uses a system of sensors and gyros to stabilize the bike, even if it gets it, and has built-in "smartphone" technology that keep it up-to-date on traffic and weather. It also uses an electric motor. Lit explains, "We are reinventing the motorcycle and rethinking the future of commuting to create green jobs supporting a sustainable future." They should be hitting the streets in 2014. Want one?

Completely defeats the purpose of riding a bike. The new 3-wheel Can-Am is pretty cool and would be great for long runs but this hybrid idea has no practical use.

Steering wheel vs handlebars, the gyro system that keeps it upright by itself, foot operated throttle, etc.
Still a st0000pid idea, though.

If you wanted the freedoms of a motorcycle, this gives you the restrictions of a car.
If you wanted the benefits of a car, this gives you the limitations of a motorcycle.

I honestly cannot see ONE advantage about it at all.

If you could just idiot proof it and the other drivers around it. Unfortunately, the small the car the more likely to be a rolling coffin if hit by an SUV with some not paying attention. ;-)

So has the Piaggio... and the Piaggio has wheels that turn with the bike so that it is more stable and more like a motorcycle than a trike

Yes,Its an innovative design and the gyrostabilization is Beautifully engineered,Its a rather nice vehicle albeit a little small. The whole concept of a moto-car(motocar?,carcycle?re... robin 2k14?) Is a very fragile science as it is,prototype vehicles are usually the only fruit of the industry so far.I also have a concern or two about the electric motor,where would it be charged,how long would it take,how much will it cost.despite these concerns I would very much like to have one or two of these little vehicles

These are not new. They were popular when I was in college half a century ago. Back then, they were kits for fiberglass covers over a motorcycle. We called them "Messerschmitts," because the motorcycle cover looked like the cockpit of a WWII German fighter airplane.

If I want to drive a car, I'll drive a car. If I want to ride a motorcycle, I will ride a motorcycle. Damn it. That thing just looks like it screams, "I'm for the ladies, and little fairy-type men who want to try to be cool."

That's a motorcycle.

I like scooters, too, and think that those scooters that look like motorcycles are kind of silly, too. On the other hand, if this car/motorcycle thing is designed and made completely in the U.S., I might consider it just for that fact. Good thing I'm a lady. lol

I think if you call it a 2 wheel commuter vehicle it might get better acceptance. When I rode motorcycles it was for the wind in my face and the free feeling. Putting a cabin around it makes it a car. The unrealistic specs are not likely to materialize:120 miles per hour and 220 miles per charge. And $24,000 starting price puts it in the price range of the Hybrids and plug-in electrics that have much higher utility. It's a NO for me.

I ride a motorcycle to get OUT of the cage and feel the open air. Why ruin the experience of riding by putting a box around the motorcycle?

Doesn't work for me. I don't like front wheel drive and I don't like any of this 'green' crap. When it comes down to it, I liked it when I could work on my OWN car, but that's so 1970.

Just leave me alone with my Crown Vic. V8 with rear wheel drive. i won't be dictated to. I want to do what I want to do in my life. You do yours and leave me alone to enjoy.

That atrocity in the pictures? It's just a caricature of these george jetson pieces of s#it. You can have all of them. I'll take this lady right here:

Looks like just the thing for commuting for one person, people who are adverse to carpooling. It would have to have gyros for self balancing to work, that would be cool to see how well they work.
