Would You Want a Motorcycle-Car Hybrid?

You!

This isn't the first time auto-makers have tried to design a motorcycle-car hybrid, but as "Top Gear" showed us a few years back, the Reliant Robin was hardly practicle. We really hope Lit Motors Inc. improved on that, because they're attempting to develop a new breed of motorcycle-car hybrids. Fortunately, developers say it'll take a baby elephant to knock this one over.

The Lit C-1 is technically a motorcycle, as it runs on two wheels, but has a chassis that looks a lot like a smart car. The vehicle uses a system of sensors and gyros to stabilize the bike, even if it gets it, and has built-in "smartphone" technology that keep it up-to-date on traffic and weather. It also uses an electric motor. Lit explains, "We are reinventing the motorcycle and rethinking the future of commuting to create green jobs supporting a sustainable future." They should be hitting the streets in 2014. Want one?

    Carcycle: for pansies.

Seriously though, anyone who'd actually be cruising around in one of these had better stay the hell away from bikers. I can just imagine the headlines already...

Actually it's the opposite, new cars are safer when it comes to getting into accidents, newer cars are designed to crumble in a way that leaves the people in side as safe as possible, just because it's made of metal doesn't mean it's safer.

Thats what I am talking about I don't want a car to crumble up. Every car thats ever hit mine, nothing happened to it. How is crumbling up safer when my car dose not even have a scratch?
  • Keith Magical... 2012/06/08 04:32:00
    Keith
well it depends on the speed your going, in a head on collision with both cars going 40 mph the newer car is going to be safer, it will crumble up in front and absorb much of the impact where as a older car is more likely to bend and kill everyone inside, but older cars do have much more style.

I want it to go 100 miles on a charge and cost less than $15,000, and then I'll buy. I'd also like an open top version, to give it more of a motorcycle feel.

Less than $15,000? It doesn't cost more than $3,000 to build and EV- the battery pack being the most expensive component. If even the most elaborately decked out EV is priced at more than $5,000, somebody's getting ripped off.

Turns out Lit Motors is planning to price the full production model of this car/bike at $24,000.

LOL- so we are all getting excited about sitting on top of a power source that is so dangerous you can't send it in the mail any more ...I have some GB- LION rc cars and I have watched them melt the body of the car ...I will leave that up to the rest of you fools / for me (here in reality) the future is CNG and perhaps some hydrogen power !
  • TheNigh... Franklin 2012/06/07 13:58:40 (edited)
    TheNightFly
Dangerous? The battery packs in an EV are a little more sophisticated than the ones they put in toy rc cars. You get a lot of lights and bells and the smell of something burning well before you burst into flames. CNG has to be stored in tanks at more than 3000 psi. You'll get no warning when they decide to pop.
  • Franklin TheNigh... 2012/06/07 17:49:30
    Franklin
car fires from CNG over the past 20 years -zero- , car fires from EV's over the past year ...LOL
and tell me this when was the last time natural gas exploded because it was exposed to WATER !!!!! electricity is a dead end - the tech is as good as its ever going to get + it still has to be generated and stored ...how many volts does a gallon of gas hold? or even better how many pounds of battery does it take to store the energy contained in a single gallon of gas ? (BTW - I know the answer to both questions )

BTW you pissed me off when you LIED about the PSI in a CNG tank ! the only tank I have around here under 3K PSI is the O2 tank on my welder !
  • TheNigh... Franklin 2012/06/07 19:53:45 (edited)
    TheNightFly
Hey, I'm not partial to any particular power source. CNG is actually quite impressive. Whatever works is fine with me. I didn't lie about the psi though.

sorry if I got off on a tear / you sounded like an old friend* of mine for a moment there - as far as PSI yes you could go to 3K but not for a cars fuel tank (why would you it won't hold more just because you crank it up) ...the average PSI is 60 so its as safe as gas and whole lot cheaper+cleaner .

*your not northton are you ? I kind of miss fighting with him about alt-energy and government dead end projects...Nevada "solar one" etc LOL
