This isn't the first time auto-makers have tried to design a motorcycle-car hybrid, but as "Top Gear" showed us a few years back, the Reliant Robin was hardly practicle. We really hope Lit Motors Inc. improved on that, because they're attempting to develop a new breed of motorcycle-car hybrids. Fortunately, developers say it'll take a baby elephant to knock this one over.

The Lit C-1 is technically a motorcycle, as it runs on two wheels, but has a chassis that looks a lot like a smart car. The vehicle uses a system of sensors and gyros to stabilize the bike, even if it gets it, and has built-in "smartphone" technology that keep it up-to-date on traffic and weather. It also uses an electric motor. Lit explains, "We are reinventing the motorcycle and rethinking the future of commuting to create green jobs supporting a sustainable future." They should be hitting the streets in 2014. Want one?

Thanks, I pretty much keep it this way most of the time. Every once in a while I'll trim it down to a couple of inches then let it grow out again. It's about 7" at the pictured length.

nothing beats the real thing!!! the harley riders are going to laugh their asses off at this one!!! try showing up at stugis on that thing!!! and besides motocycles are already a cheap great way to travel. very fuel efficient already.

BS on fuel eficciency as a reason for motorcycles, cars routinely get better than large bore or big bikes that usually struggle to get out of the 30s on mileage, especially after the usual ham handed mods to make them "sound" better and "perform" better, the rain and cold protection is so wonderful on bikes as another point.

BTW, I have a Harley and three more bikes besides and ride quite a lot.

we did try a Can-Am spyder tho...and that was great....this C-1 isnt really for us tho... In nice weather hubby takes the Goldwing and in nasty weather the 4x4...we are only about 2 miles from his work..

I cannot imagine showing up at Sturgis period. It's not my thing and I haven't owned a motorcycle for years. However, I certainly get your point.

I don't find a damn thing wrong with bicycles, in fact I used to ride a mountain-bike frequently. Mopeds neither have the power of a motorcycle or the versatility of a mountain-bike. They are an abomination.

It has a floor and yes, the gyros do work to keep it balanced even when standing still. This writeup might interest you...

Hybrids are ugly and they are not cost effective. Motorcycles are great, but I am afraid of the OTHER DRIVERS on the road.

I am with you, my son was hit and sent across 4 lanes of commute traffic by a griver who didn't see him(didn't look) and sent him to the hospital. BTW it also totalled his Chrome Ducati Monster, very sad!

It's a cute toy. It limits a Real Americans Freedom. Ford has a truck coming out in the
near future that can get 58MPG with plenty of power and torque. Just look out America.

exactly nothing like the open road my husband and i have been riding our gold wing for years. real motorcyle riders wouldnt be caught dead in that thing.

Here's an article on it. I doubt it has a heater as it would drain the battery.

True about bad weather however, my guess is that riders will have to wear helmets as well and that would really suck.

But the technology is fantastic! 220 miles per charge and a starting price of $24K according to one article I found about it. Balances even at rest by way of gyroscopes. I assume it even backs up.

Never-the-less I think I would spend a little more and get a Prius. Seating for 4 or 5 plus the ability to go cross-country. In addition the Prius is now generation 3 as I understand. The Lit is going to be developmental for a while.

hate to admit it but I got a wing last year but I only ride it when its raining ...the rest of the time I am a "purist"....so what kind of wing have you got and how do you like it ?
