You may not have heard about the Green Party but they are

serious and will have a legitimate candidate for President this

year. I find the Democrats and Republicans too much alike in

most ways to even have a real choice. It seems like it comes

down to which will do our Country less harm.

Have you thought that it might be time to let another Political

Party have a chance?

    I would, I have and I will vote for the Constitution Party.

    I would not vote Green Party ever. If you look up parties that have any significant following at the present, they are, right to left, with principal stand or cause,
    1. Constitution Party. Christian Conservative,
    2. Republican Party. Capitalist Conservative.
    3. Libertarian Party. Schizophrenic.
    4. Democratic Party. Liberal.
    5. Green Party. Environmentalist.
    6. Peace and Freedom. Socialist

    Seven Principals of the Constitution Party.
    Life: For all human beings, from conception to natural death;
    Liberty: Freedom of conscience and actions for the self-governed individual;
    Family: One husband and one wife with their children as divinely instituted;
    Property: Each individual's right to own and steward personal property without government burden;
    Constitution: and Bill of Rights interpreted according to the actual intent of the Founding Fathers;
    States' Rights: Everything not specifically delegated by the Constitution to the federal government, nor prohibited by the Constitution to the states, is reserved to the states or to the people;
    American Sovereignty: American government committed to the protection of the borders, trade, and common defense of Americans, and not entangled in foreign alliances.

    The problem is as Jim Hightower said in the title to his book "If the Gods Wanted Us to Vote They Would Have Given Us Candidates", by Jim Hightower: I have not read this book, however, the title says what a lot of the voters who do not vote for President and some of the other offices tell me. The Parties have a monopoly and they have no reason to really give us a choice. AmericansElect is trying to change that.

    You can't change it until all the money is removed from politics, and only public funding is allowed.

    As I have told my dear father if you do nothing to try to change it, you are the one at fault, and you have not purchased your right to complain about anything. I have and will continue to work for any and all change that will make that happen. I do not complain I try to get the job done any way that I can make progress in that direction.

    You are definitely right Money is a big problem, however, to date I have never seen any public funding plan that is practical and will work in the real world. I would certainly love to see every proposal that someone can come up with. Some of the Election Laws which are already on the books have so many "catch-22's" in them that they are impossible for anyone to comply with, those need to be changed also, and yes they were all written and passed by our overpaid rich lawyers in Congress.

    To answer the question, No, not this time. I did that when Carter ran ( voted for Anderson) and I discovered that It was like throwing away a vote. If people do it this time it will take votes away from one or the other candidate and in my opinion, that was how Bush got in when Gore had the popular vote. Mainly because the 3rd party voters prevented the majority winner from actually winning and then it goes by the electoral college which basically goes by specific states with the most electoral votes, not the popular votes. I understand why people do it, and try to follow their heart, but if you are given this wonderful opportunity to make a difference by voting....then don't take away popular votes from major candidates. It messes things up in the electoral college. The founding fathers created the electoral college because they felt the common man was not educated enough to make a truly wise decision and the electoral college was their cushion to give them back power if things got out of hand. Well, America is now smart enough to make decisions but since we still have the electoral votes being the deciding factor then they have to rework the college system to include third party alternatives. Until they restructure the electoral college, third parties will hurt the major candidates.

    Voting for the status-quo is throwing your vote away.

    We need real NonPartisan Elections, which we expect all real democracies to have. The Electoral College, well designed for Colonial America, has been obsolete for well over 100 years. I have been told that many people have the odd misconception that the reason for it has something to do with States Rights, It only has to do with the lack of timely communication and fast transportation in Colonial America, and a concession to the Slave holding states so that "slave" votes could be counted for the President, three things that have not existed for many years. We The People do not choose our Presidents, the Parties do. The best way to encourage a better slate of candidates to run, which everyone would be much more enthusiastic about voting for would be to eliminate the Electoral College. We could then have real elections which will pass anyone’s Democracy Test.

    AmericansElect and I are working to make the changes that you seem to want. We need your support.

    Bush got in over Gore because he won in votes, in ALL recounts. There was no third party to take votes from Gore or Bush. By the way, the popular vote is irrelevant, it doesn't "then go to the electoral vote", the electoral vote decides the election, period.

    Where did you go to school? This is a complete falsehood --> "The founding fathers created the electoral college because they felt the common man was not educated enough to make a truly wise decision ...". You really need to do some reading.

    Duh! You didn't read what I wrote because you clearly misunderstood what I said. I teach school and history and the electoral college is one of my subjects. I am well aware of how decisions are made. My students have to study how many votes each state represents and then election night they have to add up the votes. The only time they couldn't do that in my 36 years as a teacher, was during the Bush/Gore race. Gore won the popular vote. Bush won the electoral votes because of states like Texas and Florida.

    I pity your students, you really teach this crap? Small wonder America has such a low rated status when it comes to education. The fact remains, the popular vote is irrelevant, it doesn't "then go to the electoral vote" as you said, that's stupid.

    And since you evaded, I'll ask again, where did you dream up this nonsense --> "The founding fathers created the electoral college because they felt the common man was not educated enough to make a truly wise decision ...".

    My husband, who passed away last year from cancer taught American history at a local high school and Junior college. He specialized in this subject. When he passed away they created a scholarship in his name for students to study American History. You are misinformed and your rude tactics don't due you justice. My husband lectured to his college students about the electoral college all the time and why the founding fathers created it. I teach gifted elementary school students. ( students in the top 2 % nationwide.) If you check out my photos on SH you can see me sitting with the top teachers in my county winning educational awards, so you can believe what you want....I don't pity anyone if they are uneducated or ill informed. I do take issue with rude behavior from people who chose not to learn. But, then I suppose you know more than the governor of Florida who gave me, and also my husband, our awards for excellence in our field of expertise.

    Oops, wasn't paying attention to the illustration icons when I voted, I'm not a green party follower per se.

    But, in answer to the primary question regarding third parties, this is much more than just a "good idea worth looking into". I have been a libertarian, and mostly voted as such, since the party was established in the early 70's. IMO this IS a third party worth looking into.
