I would not vote Green Party ever. If you look up parties that have any significant following at the present, they are, right to left, with principal stand or cause,
1. Constitution Party. Christian Conservative,
2. Republican Party. Capitalist Conservative.
3. Libertarian Party. Schizophrenic.
4. Democratic Party. Liberal.
5. Green Party. Environmentalist.
6. Peace and Freedom. Socialist
Seven Principals of the Constitution Party.
Life: For all human beings, from conception to natural death;
Liberty: Freedom of conscience and actions for the self-governed individual;
Family: One husband and one wife with their children as divinely instituted;
Property: Each individual's right to own and steward personal property without government burden;
Constitution: and Bill of Rights interpreted according to the actual intent of the Founding Fathers;
States' Rights: Everything not specifically delegated by the Constitution to the federal government, nor prohibited by the Constitution to the states, is reserved to the states or to the people;
American Sovereignty: American government committed to the protection of the borders, trade, and common defense of Americans, and not entangled in foreign alliances.

You are definitely right Money is a big problem, however, to date I have never seen any public funding plan that is practical and will work in the real world. I would certainly love to see every proposal that someone can come up with. Some of the Election Laws which are already on the books have so many "catch-22's" in them that they are impossible for anyone to comply with, those need to be changed also, and yes they were all written and passed by our overpaid rich lawyers in Congress.

We need real NonPartisan Elections, which we expect all real democracies to have. The Electoral College, well designed for Colonial America, has been obsolete for well over 100 years. I have been told that many people have the odd misconception that the reason for it has something to do with States Rights, It only has to do with the lack of timely communication and fast transportation in Colonial America, and a concession to the Slave holding states so that "slave" votes could be counted for the President, three things that have not existed for many years. We The People do not choose our Presidents, the Parties do. The best way to encourage a better slate of candidates to run, which everyone would be much more enthusiastic about voting for would be to eliminate the Electoral College. We could then have real elections which will pass anyone’s Democracy Test.
AmericansElect and I are working to make the changes that you seem to want. We need your support.

Where did you go to school? This is a complete falsehood --> "The founding fathers created the electoral college because they felt the common man was not educated enough to make a truly wise decision ...". You really need to do some reading.
And since you evaded, I'll ask again, where did you dream up this nonsense --> "The founding fathers created the electoral college because they felt the common man was not educated enough to make a truly wise decision ...".
Read what Hamilton wrote in the federalist papers. Hamilton and the other founders did not trust the general population to make the right choice. If you are going to spout history, then KNOW your history. I didn't think I would have to give a history lesson on SH! I was hoping you would research it yourself as a learning experience to broaden your mind and stop you from spouting historical misconceptions.
"It was equally desirable, that the immediate election should be made by men most capable of analyzing the qualities adapted to the station, and acting under circumstances favorable to deliberation, and to a judicious combination of all the reasons and inducements which were proper to govern their choice. A small number of persons, selected by their fellow-citizens from the general mass, will be most likely to possess the information and discernment requisite to such complicated investigations. It was also peculiarly desirable to afford as little opportunity as possible to tumult and disorder. "Hamilton and the other founders believed that the electors would be able to insure that only a qualified person becomes President. They believed that with the Electoral College no one would be able to manipulate the citizenry. It would act as check on an electorate that might be duped. Hamilton and the other founders did not trust the population to make the right choice. The founders also believed that the Electoral College had the advantage of being a group that met only once and thus could not be manipulated over time by foreign governments or others."
You continue to evade.

What I won't do is vote for a green party candidate or any other third party canidate if I suspect that my vote would result in another term for the current President.

But, in answer to the primary question regarding third parties, this is much more than just a "good idea worth looking into". I have been a libertarian, and mostly voted as such, since the party was established in the early 70's. IMO this IS a third party worth looking into. The tree huggers...I'm not all that familiar with their politics, so I'm not so sure.
There is a Libertarian who always attends our State Conventions in
Colorado.
