It's also no use trying, as they usually really believe they can raise healthy children without meat or dairy products. It's hard to convince them without them feeling insulted about their lifestyle.

Personally, I'm a vegetarian. It pisses me off when people bash my choices, or tell me I'm ridiculous, ect. It's hard to exercise the will to not eat meat. I don't need your opinion, and I don't need your insults. If a child wants to eat meat/animal byproducts, if they fully understand their choice, then it IS their choice. But if they like vegan food, it's not your job to chose for them, it's theirs. That a vegan lifestyle is unhealthy is an ignorant misconception made by people who have no education on the subject and therefore should not voice their opinion. It is better to let people think you are a fool than to open your mouth and prove them right. as Twain so famously said. I admire anyone who has that much will, especially kids.

My 3 year old daughter is a vegetarian. She just doesn't prefer meat. However, there are those who choose to be vegetarians because killing an animal and eating it is absolutely horrible....yet it is perfectly normal in our circle of life.

But it would depend on if i was the children's doctor and their test results showed they needed a different diet. If everything was A ok then no i would not suggest a change.

It's up to parents what they feed their kids. I'd suggest balanced meals of healthy foods, though. And supermarket veggies are sometimes no healthier than supermarket meats and dairy products.
In this home, we let the kids eat pretty much whatever healthy foods they wanted and I didn't mind cooking a dish of whatever they each wanted. So sometimes one would want meatloaf and carrots and the other wanted fish and spinach. Not a big deal to cook a variety.

If they're healthy and getting the nutrients they need to grow and develop, it should be ok. If there are evident health problems, I would hope that their doctor would bring up the possibility of adding meat/meat products to their diet.

As long as they are making sure they are getting the proper amounts of calcium, protein, and all the vitamins they need to stay healthy then they can eat however they want.

My oldest tried that for a couple of years turned pasty white and almost died from malnutrition. He now enjoys red meat all the time and his brain functions properly

Actually, when I was a small child I was raised on a vegan diet. My mom was a heath nut. I could hardly eat candy or sugary foods either. I was probably at my healthiest then. I'm still vegetarian but I eat dairy and junk food too.

One set of my country cousins grew up eating bologna sandwiches and moon pies while drinking orange sodas by the caseloads every day - they turned out ok and no one would have even thought to tell their parents they weren't eating right even though it is pretty obvious. Vegan done right is very healthy.

It takes some careful planning and research to be a healthy vegan. If a parent knows what they are doing then by all means. Personally, I am not a fan of the vegan way of life. Every vegan I know is on some sort of supplement. If your diet requires you to take supplements or medication because you are unhealthy then perhaps you need to rethink your eating habits. According to much scientific research, we should not be taking supplements of any kind. Nutrition should come from the foods we ingest. This might not be a popular opinion but it is mine :O)
