Would you object to being served by a waitress who is transgender?

That's all I ask, all I want to do is help to make it clear who and what trans gendered people are. Even if you don't believe it is right for people to surgically change their genitals, and even if we want to argue over chromosomes, we are dealing with people who have what is essentially a birth defect, where the gender of their brains don't match the gender of their bodies. It's an error made during gestation, when chemicals and hormones are bombarding the fetus and creating it's gender. It leaves the person mentally one gender and physically another and I believe it would be cruel to ask them to remain that way. Some of them have malformed genitals and the doctors take a guess at what gender the baby is when it is born. Oh it looks mostly like a boy so raise it as a boy. We now know this is really not a kind thing to do. And in some ways it is sometimes like asking a person to be homosexual. If you are a man in your head and you are attracted to women but your body is female and you are told you must be with a man, imagine how traumatic that must be. It is easier to surgically alter the physical body to match the brain than to go the other way round, so we take the view that you are the gender you are in your head, and we can help make your life better by giving you a body that matches it. That's it. That's all it is. We surgically correct lots of genetic errors to help make people's lives better. I hope someday we can all be more understanding and accepting of this one.
