Yes, I believe in the science.

This is such a cool idea!

It would be cool to store my body and have me come back, but I don't know if I want to go with it.

    No, that’s too weird!

I plan to go with God, thanks anyway.

Then I could spend eternity hoping they continue to pay the electric bill. hahaha

They don't use electricity, it is topped up with a huge liquid nitrogen truck every so often. There is a trust fund for the money to keep paying for it.

No. I believe we have a time on this Earth. Now is my time. When it's done I'll start another adventure. Death is just another part of life, not the end.

Have you read about quantum immortality? Maybe you just randomly pop up somewhere in the universe or "jump" to the most similar existing mind, because somewhere is a universe with an arrangement of atoms that remembers being you. Or maybe your consciousness is effectively sent back in time to make different decisions that keep you from being killed, so you are always "lucky". In that case the big concern would be that you could end up losing all your friends as they only survive in different universes from you.

Only if they would drop me into Mecca during Ramadan preferably with a 100mega ton nuke strapped to my cold frozen rear, praise Allah.

Not because it's "too weird", just because immortality never seemed all that great to me, and this would be getting too close.

    I did hit "no", btw.

There are a lot of anti-immortality tv shows out there... the situation makes for good drama. But cryonics wouldn't give you "immortality" unless you were really lucky and never got into an accident.

Still too close to it. When I die, that's probably my time. Unless I die tragically young, I can't see myself wanting to drag it out.

-Who in their right mind would want to do this? Why anyone would want to come back into a society that would most likely be more messed up than it is now is an idiot. That is all.

I've already researched this extensively. Nobody I've seen meets the criteria of a) being rich and b) profiting from cryonics. The main cryo orgs are nonprofits and their employees are generally paid at or below market rate.

I hate the thought of being cold. Makes my joints ache.
Why would I want to be thawed out later when everyone I cared about was gone? The joy in my life comes from the people in it and the dogs and cats too,

I have heard that it is an expensive process. My friends and I are really cheap. So I don't see it happening.

I will have no funeral and no casket. I will have a natural burial, just put me in the ground and be done with it.

That's the way I look at it. I mean, I'll be dead... What's the point in blowing all that money on a corpse?
  • lsparrish exsecrare July 30, 2011 18:23:13
    lsparrish
I agree... But with cryonics there is a scientifically based hope of living again. That makes it rational to spend some money on it. Basically it's value of a life times the probability of it working.

Admittedly there are cheaper ways to save lives with higher probbility, but you have to account for the fact that a) they won't last as long (since cryonics working has to include curing aging and so forth), and b) the costs of cryonics is cheaper per person if more people are doing it.
  • exsecrare lsparrish July 31, 2011 04:59:36

But then there's also the ethical issues with this. "Ignoring natural selection", "playing god", etc. And who wants to live that damn long anyway? I for one wouldn't.
