Sounds like the city/county needs to look for a different private contractor or expand jurisdiction.
We're not talking about a parking ticket.
Reminds me of an incident in Washington (I believe) where security 'cops' stood by and watched a female being attacked and robbed because intervention wasn't included in their job description.
Would you have done the same if it meant possibly losing your job? Lifeguard Fired for Rescue Attempt

Common sense was replaced by the ability to slip on a French fry your own kid dropped and become a millionaire overnight.
A bunch of lawyers figured they could make a fortune and came up with the idea of 'insurance' long ago.
The world hasn't been the same since.
Regardless of what *might* have happened,
this one sounds like a sure thing.
The Guy was saving someone elses life, and gets fired. If I were that guys boss eventhough he "broke the rules" I would have let him slide. And his boss should be glad I'm not the guy he fired. I would've dragged his ass just out of zone dropped him in the water, and would've said "Sorry dude, not my zone."
