It grossed over $2 billion worldwide and captivated moviegoers all over the globe with its groundbreaking special effects -- and now James Cameron aims to make his 2009 smash “Avatar” into a theme park.
Reuters reports that the director is teaming up with News Corp division, Fox Filmed Entertainment and the Walt Disney Company (because there’s no one better to help create a theme park than the Mouse House) to recreate “Avatar's” setting of Pandora as lush green landscape as part of Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
Disney has won exclusive global theme park rights to the film franchise and will begin building in 2013 and plans to take “Avatar” lands beyond the theme park. “Our goal is go beyond current boundaries of technical innovation and experimental storytelling, and give park-goers the chance to see, hear, and tough the world of “Avatar” with an unprecedented sense of reality,” James Cameron said in a statement.
The 2009 film chronicles the story of the alien race, Na’vi against humans bent on using their Pandora home world for its resources and sucking it dry. Cameron is currently working on a sequel to be released around Christmas 2014. At a news conference, Cameron said that he "quickly realized their [Disney’s] vision for this thing was far beyond what I imagined, and I’ve got a pretty good imagination."
While the Mouse House typically uses its own intellectual properties when developing themed sections and rides, it does already have some attractions based on films from other studios, including the “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” franchises.
Disney Chief, Bob Iger said that the company planned to bring “Avatar” to other locations beyond Orlando. “We think we can clearly leverage the global interest in this property,” Iger said.
What’s your take, film fanatics? Are you ready to go back to Pandora or is the idea opening up Pandora’s box?

Splinter76 2011/09/21 19:23:20No+15I KNOW I'm in the huge minority here, but... I hated the movie. I thought it was laughable and just a rip off of Dances with Wolves and maybe Fern Gully. It was just... bad.

how cool is that?
I'd go though if it was this avatar:
