    If the tax due to my earnings from the show were applied more widely to the rest of my earnings or shoved me into another tax-bracket unfairly, then I'd return the money and ask them to donate it to charity instead.

    There are certain levels of tax where there are 'cliffs' and sometimes do not make financial sense to jump to another for the sake of a one off payment.
