ABC News??? Isn't that an oxymoron?

If this is really a question from ABC News, you people should be ashamed of yourselves. Your organization is the weakest of all news outlets, by far. Really pathetic. You should try hiring a few journalists, or at least a few people who believe that journalism is not a form of entertainment. You sicken me.

What if that company is using slave labor and paying them 8 cents an hour to sew clothing...does that make a difference in your ability to purchase from them?
  • Grey Dinah 2009/11/22 21:12:24
    Grey
Yes, I should have qualified my answer. That would make a difference to me. I've stopped buying products from companies that withdrew their sponsorship of Glenn Beck so I guess my answer was completely wrong. It does make a difference to me.

Not generally, but if the CEO was a true zealot, I would have serious reservations about spending my money to indirectly support it.

All you guys putting no are telling yourself a lie. If a jewish man walked into a store and saw a guy have a swastika on his neck do you think he would buy something? We are all bias lets just be honest.

    > I'm not Jewish but I know that I'd run the other way... if I saw a guy with a Swastika on his neck because chances are..he is an ignorant racist with an underlying violent tendency! (That is unless someone held him down and forced him to get a swastika placed on his neck..PROBABLY NOT!) Racism = pure ignorance!

Yes,there are companies who are backing efforts to discourage the destruction of the Amazon rainforest by not buying materials and products from the region and there are others which are plundering this area.Reputed to be damaging to the vital area are companies like Alcoa who mines bauxite there to make aluminum and has destoyed alot of pristine land and drastically harmed the lives of small farmers and residents there.Other companies are like Mcdonalds who buys beef from the cattle ranchers there and Ford which uses leather from Brazil in their car manufacturing plant in Canada. These companies say they are trying to buy from ranchers who do not strip and burn the land ..but they have no way of making sure the products they buy are all coming from better sources. I tend to look unfavorably at companies who are buying all their raw materials from another country because it is cheaper there.Same with companies who hire all their workers abroad. We need to get our products more from our own soil and less from countries who have lax regulation systems.

Each issue has a certain "weight" with it. Many things it just ok to disagree.
Other issues such as funding abortion, I might seriously object and not patronize.

Really I would only boycott a store for the following reasons: Racism, Sexism, or Religiousism... (not really sure if that's an ism or not but you know what I mean.) I really don't believe that politics has anything to do with shopping and as UrbanHillbilly said it's really hard not to give money to people that you don't like. I believe that politics is like religion just another thing that creates controversy and makes people get into fights, but this is my personal belief. It is also my belief that people should respect others opinions (which I have seen rarely happens) so therefore, boycotting a store because a CEO had an opposing political view then you is just silly. Boycotting anything for ONLY that reason is completely silly.

I personally don't go to McDonalds because I know they buy alot of their beef from Brazil where it is a fact that the cattle ranchers down there have been slashing and burning the rainforest to clear for their cattle ranchs.I am personally fond of the idea of keeping the Rainforest because itis the lungs for the whole planet. It contributes healthy oxygen which continues the planets healthy life cycle and filters out the excess co2. We don't need to destroy the Rainforest. I believe that McDonalds is one of the fastfood companies who were boiling some of their chickens alive. I hope they have changed this. Honestly, would your five or six year old eat a chiken finger or chicken sandwich if they had to watch that chicken boiled alive in front of them...I think not!Even a 5 year old knows that is wrong!

Archer ~ The Limit Break of PHAET
    For the most part, no.

However, I am boycotting Walgreens for a specific, political reason which I won't get into right now (I'm tired, I've been working all day today lugging heavy furniture around, was selling renaissance clothing from 10 till 8 yesterday, and just want a day of brain-deadedness while I can actually relax)... so yeah... There are *some* issues I consider important enough to boycott. But most I just shrug off.
