Reuters' Chrystia Freeland, speaking on CNN's "Parker-Spitzer" program, says that Obama's health care reform plan, while not perfect, is a step in the right direction toward increasing America's economic competitiveness. But what would really help America compete in world economy? Universal health care coverage.
SPITZER: So, Chrystia, let’s start with you. Competitiveness internationally is perhaps the dominant issue facing the United States as you look forward for 20 years. Have we done anything in the last two years to begin to turn the battleship on that critical issue?
FREELAND: Two important things.
SPITZER: Yup.
FREELAND: One is health care reform. Not a very good reform effort, but at least the president tried, and something that I think Americans miss is compared to other western industrialized nations, not having universal health care really limits mobility of labor. It makes it harder for people to start their own businesses and it hurts big companies. So if you look at the car companies, Ontario is doing better for the big car companies than Michigan is right now. And part of the reason is, the biggest reason-
SPITZER: So health care was one step.
FREELAND: They don’t have that burden. One step.

Mel the Witch POTL PWCM~JLA 2010/12/29 15:22:11No+10It's a horror show. Where ever Universal Health Care has been attempted, Bankruptcy, poor health care has been the end result. It has never worked and never will.

Who are we supposed to compete with? The other socialists and their deathcare?
Are we going to out kill these other countries to prove that we care less about ourselves then they do?
HEY STUPID! WALK INTO THIS INCINERATOR FOR ME OK?
In the case of Canada's (which is subdivided by province), the absolute worst is OHIP (you guessed it, that of morOntario) which was shown to be FUBAR when numbers of Americans (from NY and MI, both of which border on the AK-sized hellpit Province) were able to register for it (and access it) without ever having paid US$ 0.0097 (current value of C$ 0.01) into the system.
How much WORSE is the situation facing US where there are at least 12 million (possibly DOUBLE that) illegals present who ALREADY overburden the systems--and who don't pay into it at all--who will certainly abuse such coverage!
The 20th Century alone disproved the theory of Central Planning and Socialism. Only free markets create wealth.
Thousands of Canadians each year come to the US for their life saving healthcare needs.
