As a more or less mainstream, economically conservative, Christian, I have grown up hearing the constant looming threat of "One World Government" related to various things; the U.N., NATO, the E.U, and just about anything else designed to keep countries from annihilating each other. I now ask, why would one world government be such a bad thing? If it wasn't totalitarian or overly controlling, why not? Many other Christians point to it as a sign of the end-times, but even if that is literal, why are we so afraid of Jesus coming back? Replies from all perspectives would be appreciated.

A looser form of government is necessary for a more widely varied body of governed, Rome tried basically the opposite.reply - ahhaterry 2012/06/16 02:04:11It would be bad!Just observe how special interests (our enemies and even allies) operate to create all kinds of bizarre control within the UN... Bump all that... in fact, screw the UN. And definitely screw a one world gov... our own gov is oppressive enough these days, and requires great vigil... don't want no one world gov telling me/us what to do n how to think, etc...reply

I was talking more about something like the U.S. under the articles of the confederation than anything else. Not enough power to do much real oppressing, but plenty to legally limit what sort of terrorist whackos places like Egypt can put in power. They can believe what they want, so long as they're not acting out thier beliefs via dropping WMD's on Israel.reply - ahhaterry Sup4A 2012/07/06 02:56:48
If we had the political will and wear-withal, we would back allies like Israel. Period. Appreciate th' feedback, I continue to disagree... Best wishes thoughreply - I. Car Rus 2012/06/16 00:38:20

True. I was basically speaking in terms of Ideals rather than practical feasability.reply - Angi 2012/06/15 23:59:25It would be bad!Yes, it would be very bad.reply

Though impractical, I like Thomas More's idea proposed in Utopia. The first thing the people did when choosing public officials was to go through and take every name of anyone who WANTED to be a politician off the list of possibilities.reply
