Woman Pulls Gun To Prevent Smart Meter Installation

snipe 2012/07/21 22:20:08
Those Texas Girls are tough!

55-year-old Thelma Taormina has signs posted on her front gate warning utility employees not to trespass on her land, as well as another that reads, “No smart meters are to be installed on this property.”

However, that didn’t stop a CenterPoint Energy worker from attempting to replace Taormina’s old electricity meter with a new device that wirelessly beams back information on each home’s energy use to a central hub.

When the worker began physically pushing Taormina out of the way in an effort to install the smart meter, Taormina drew her gun and demanded the worker leave the property .

“Our constitution allows us not to have that kind of intrusion on our personal privacy,” Taormina told KHOU 11 News. “They’ll be able to tell if you are running your computer, air conditioner, whatever it is.”

Indeed, privacy experts have warned that smart meters could be used to spy on consumers in a myriad of different ways, including “what appliances are being used in individual homes, and even what programmes are being watched on TV.”

If he touched her in any way, she had a right to 'defend' herself. I'm not thrilled with these smart meters at all. Our small power company which barely keeps our system working is 'planning' to begin installing the smart meters. They've been very evasive when asked how they plan to pay for them.

So, because something is "the law" it is automatically right? What if "the law" said you had to have your television viewing habits monitored? What if "the law" said baseball caps and white t-shirts were illegal? There are lots of laws in China, North Korea and Cuba too. Legal does not equal right.

Well seeing on how the electric company is a makes their rules and regualtions then she should be free to find a way to power her own home as they should have the right to cut her power unless the new meter is installed.

    These meters are Radios.
Wonder what would happen if people started wrapping them in tinfoil ?
Each month the Utilities would have to come remove the foil to read them anyway, and the meters aren't build with data logging capabilities.
    Back to square one .

Would that really work?? Because if it does it's a great idea for the poor people that have them now and don't want them.

Simple experiment , have some one call you.
( preferentially close enough that you can talk when your phone don't work )
Then cover your phone in tin foil and have them call again.

If you don't have a smart meter yet , they are installed by implied consent .
It is assumed you gave permission by not telling them NO .
Google " refuse smart meters "
it is easier to prevent installation than to have removal .

It does seem that a pan and some tape is easy too if that's your only choice, I hope it's not.

Good for her. Unfortunately we have to choose prison or give up our property rights in this country today. This is no longer a free country. The Supreme Court Decision on Healthcare has shown us that.

i don't suppose it ever occured to you that she might be making that part up to justify (after the fact) her crazed actions...

she has signs posted... she WANTED this confrontation.... my instincts tell me that SHE was the one doing the pushing... but like I said...

all I need to know is that she chased off a meter reader with a hand gun.

    nut-a, job-a.

    that's your deal, not mine...

she intended to prevent the meter reader from going onto her property and from installing the equipment that would allwo them to read her meter remotely.

are you saying she intended to send in a blank check every month?

do you have any proof of THAT?

But not one of common sense lol no wonder liberals always lose, you can't just read a story, then repeat the facts, you throw in a few extra details that you invent, then you waste everyones time trying to defend them.
