Friday, the local news reported that in North Platte, Nebraska , a woman was killed sitting in her car in the parking lot of a Taco Bell. The winds picked up and toppled a 75 foot sign. The sign hit and crushed her vehicle with her in it. She died. Killed by Taco Bell...Literally.

So, it begs the question. Who is responsible for this death? We can let the attorneys fight out who gets sued and for how much...we all KNOW that is going to happen.

But who is to blame...or is it shared. If shared, choose all of the above and tell us.

Is it Taco Bell? It is their sign.
Is it the City? They allowed a sign to be 75 feet tall.
Is it Mother Nature? She blew the wind.
Is the maker of the sign? Did they make a faulty sign or mount it bad?
Is it the manufacturer of the bolts used to hold the sign?
Is it faulty sign maintenance? *Recently I saw a lightpole fall over in a parking lot. It had rusted at the base. The bolts used were not the bolts that were supposed to be used...they were 10 years old.

Should these things be inspected by the government for safety?

I think it is a little of all the above... Taco Bell should only be part to blame if they went with lower bid...you get what you pay for after all... All I know for sure is... Doesn't matter how good you drive, how careful you are in what you eat, how you excercise, smoke or not, drink or not... when you can be sitting still in a parking lot and get killed by a falling sign... that's just NOT right.

Your thoughts???

Unless you have reason to believe that the sign was Loose or faulty in any way then it would be the fault of Mother Nature.
However I give my condolences to the Family.

The sign fell over, it was obviously faulty. They aren't supposed to do that. The other signs didn't fall.

I think it's probably a little of both Taco Bell and the sign makers.

Taco Bell is a private business. If they choose to put up a sign in their parking lot they're responsible for it.

This is a real sad story!!! Taco Bell causes many deaths per year because of the lousy quality of their fake, mexican food and cheap ingredients!! They are a disgrace to all the great mexican food restaurants in the world!!

I vote Mother Nature -UNLESS- it is so clearly an act of negligence on any one parties part. Having seen first hand the tremendous force strong winds can exert, (hurricanes, tornadoes, gale-force winds) they are not to be taken lightly - Ever.
