An investigation was underway Saturday into the death of a baby who was born in a hospital waiting room in England's East Midlands region.
Steven Yorke and his partner Sara Proud went to Leicester Royal Infirmary on Sunday night when Proud realized she was in labor.
When they arrived, they were told to wait in a side room with other expectant parents.
But 80 minutes later, baby Kyle was born while Yorke was trying to find help.
When two midwives did come to assist, the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby's neck.
Kyle was quickly delivered and rushed off in the hope of being revived, but those attempts were unsuccessful.
Yorke told Sky News, "It's numbing. We're not sleeping well, we're not eating well The slightest thing and we'll cry. Sara's not left the house at all.

That pregnant woman went to that hospital because she was having a her baby. The hospital in turn didn't do there job and provide the health care that she needed. This resulted in the baby dyeing which may have been prevented had the hospital did there job and gave the care she needed. Therefore, her babies death is there fault.

She is in labor, she gets priority right next to people bleeding to death. No excuses.

The society that approved socialized health care is at fault. This is what the US has to look forward to.

depends, if somebody had a serious injury i'd take them first. If it took that long though that means they are full.

This is why we should fight government run health care. If you look for the stories, you can find a lot just like this one.

From the information below, yes. Who knows if this could have happened anyway, but she have had an immediate evaluation and her partner should not have had to deliver the baby when they were obviously in an environment where skilled people were able to assist.

My heart goes out to this couple. What a tragedy.

Of course the hospital is at fault. This couple went to the hospital because she was in labor (Basically having an emergency) and they ignored her for 80 minutes.

When a woman is in labor, aren't they put in a birthing room- or whatever they are called- no matter what stage of labor they're in?

I think they are. Cuz they showed up at the hospital already sayin that she was in labor and they jus told them to wait in the waiting room. Wat kind of hospital tells an expecting mother to wait in the waitin room?????!!!!!!!! Everyone knows that as soon as the mother is in labor that there is no waitin cuz you don't kno when she is abt to pop

It is the government's fault, since they are the entity delivering the care. Good luck trying to get anything to change when going up against the government. Happy Day America this is what we have to look forward to, long lines, incompetent staff, and no recourse when there is a problem. WOOHOO!

And BO wants socialized medicine like this? A woman gives birth after being left in a waiting room for 80 minutes? This is exactly what Obamacare will bring to the newborns, and the elderly will get little or no healthcare.

There must be some mistake. It says that this happened in England.

That can't be. England has nationalized health care, and nationalized health care is all wonderful and perfect and all that.

That's what my liberal friends tell me, anyway.

Nah, this must have happened somewhere else. It couldn't have happened in a nationalized health care utopia like the UK.

They still live longer usually than people in the U.S. their average age of death is higher. The U.S. ranks 40th.

Not when you compare the statistics accurately, the reporting in Europe pulls out high risk activities and classifies them separately. When comparing all components of life and quality of life there is no better system than America.

I read it, and the rationalization of the data they use is flawed. The report does not account for how each nation reports life expectancy or death rates of birth.

Americans are also more obese than Europeans and people in other parts of the world. We are at 43% of Americans who are overweight and obese now.

That is because we enjoy the highest standard of living in the world. Obesity is a sign of prosperity. But when you accurately compare life expectancy we are far above the raw data that is used. Most other systems do not include high risk pregnancies in their birth rates, so it automatically inflates results.

"That is because we enjoy the highest standard of living in the world."

In the 50's there were hardly any cases of obesity and we valued a high quality of living. Now we are fat, sick, uneducated and the list goes on. Nothing to brag about in my opinion and if we don't start getting our health in check; we will start falling further behind.

Get rid of the dependency programs if you want obesity rates to come down. Government doing for you instead of guaranteeing you can do for yourself is a function of a prosperous society gone wrong.

Blaming government all of the time doesn't work either. If people are going to take responsibility for their own actions; scapegoating government isn't owning up to ones mistakes either. Either people do what they have to do or don't.

first of all it is not the hospital's fault that there aren't enough hospitals and doctors to take care of everyone. Secondly, anyone can help unwrap the umbilical cord from the neck.

A good doctor or midwife can turn the baby so the cord unwraps. I know because that's how my girlfriend's neice was delivered alive. The doctor was the same doctor that deliveredthe baby delivered the mother & all her brothers & sisters.
