More Info
The
legislature will be in session on Saturday to work on the funding
bills. Our goal is to have 1,000 or more STS supporters flood the
Capitol throughout the day to remind leaders of our priorities.

Our message is, “The Eyes of Texas Are Upon You! We’re watching, we’ll remember and we VOTE!

Volunteers can choose the morning shift (10 am to 1 pm) or afternoon shift (1 to 4 pm).

Here’s what to do to take part:

1.
E-mail us at info@savetxschools.org to let us know you’re coming. If
you’re bringing a group, give us the approximate number. Also, include
which shift you prefer, or whether you will come for the full day.

2.
When you arrive, go to the Family Life Center of First United Methodist
Church (Family Life Center), 1201 Lavaca St., on the west side of the
Capitol. We’ll have t-shirts, printed materials and group assignments.
If you have Save Texas Schools shirts already, please bring them!

3.
Volunteers will go in groups to approximately 6 offices for 20 minute
visits with staff. Our goal is to have each office visited by 8-10
groups. All volunteers will also have the chance to sit in the House or
Senate galleries and be a silent witness (though your t-shirt will speak
loud and clear). We will also be able to be more vocal in the lobby by
the entrance to the House Chamber.

4. We’ll have snacks and
drinks at FUMC. The Capitol Grille (cafeteria) will also be open.
Parking is plentiful at the State Capitol Visitors parking garage.

5. More questions? Call us at 512-653-4935 or e-mail info@savetxschools.org

IF YOU CAN”T COME TO THE CAPITOL, YOU CAN STILL TAKE PART!

We
need several hundred folks to be calling throughout the day on May 21!
Our goal is that these offices spend the day either answering Save Texas
Schools calls or meeting with our volunteers. This will be a HUGE
encouragement to those who have stood for education, and a frightening
reminder to those who haven’t of the strength of our voice!

If
you want to be on the phone team on May 21, e-mail
info@savetxschools.org. Tell us where you are from, times you can work
and who your representative and senator are.

    Save Texas schools from what?

I think the more important issue is save America from Texas School Textbook Writers and their falsehoods. Renaming and lying about what happened to the Blacks, slavery, and American Indians in this nation is just WRONG!

Texas has made it loud and clear that they prefer to remain ignorant and stupid.they brag about being rough and tough self sufficient and politically independent who do not require any help of any kind from anyone but another Texan.least of all from the federal government and the "United States".given their choice they would leave the union.let them enjoy their trip.

M..I know you're not like that.and I didn't really mean the anger my words imply.it is just the frustration with the political nonsense and attitudes presented by most of the southern state governments. they reject federal involvement until they have a problem.good luck.sorry I offended you.you didn't deserve it.

Cut the school budget 30% and get rid of all the worthless "teachers". That would be a good start.

Yeah, I know. You all want a 30% increase in the number of teachers, a 50% increase in pay, pensions and full medical paid for by the taxpayer along with full retirement benefits at the age of 50. Good luck with that.

No one forced anyone to become a public servant. They chose the profession. If they don't like the pay, benefits or working conditions then they should go find other work. Perhaps they can go drill an oil well or start their own bank. If you don't like Texas then move. Oh, and what I learned in school I would have learned on my own without all the other BS that goes along with it.
  • MiNiAaRgH Country... 2011/05/18 01:21:59
    MiNiAaRgH
Just move! That is your response? How about a BETTER Texas? They chose that profession not for the money but for the civil duty of teaching children who might not have another outlet for education. They deserve more than a banker making money off of other people's demise. By the way, Texas is just as much my state as every other tax payer!!!! I AINT going nowhere! (Unless I can get a free ride and a job in Vermont) Anyone???? :-)
  • Country... MiNiAaRgH 2011/05/18 22:55:43

A BETTER Texas would get rid of the worthless teachers and give what is saved to those who are worth something. Of course that is pretty much impossible considering the Teachers Union so we just keep paying the worthless and worthwhile alike.

You are so right! Teachers are what is wrong with this country, not the bankers or oil tycoons that make billions for nothing,
