However, the economy sucks and the Prius may not be a sound investment for the return you would get on it. So if the pricing of a Prius were more comparable to something less fuel efficient this would make the return on investment negligible.

But in all truth, there are still sheeple who want behemoths to make up for things they believe are lesser.

Peronsally, I'd rather buy a reasonable priced car with decent mileage than a Prius because in the end I would save a few thousand based on my driving habits.

    gas hogs are fashionable again.

To be honest, gas guzzlers were never completely out of fashion. I drive a Ford Focus wagon that averages about 30mpg on the interstate and about 25mpg in town. I drive one of these cars because my income and personal circumstances dictate that I do, not because I'm an ardent tree hugger. It must be said that some people's circumstances dictate that they drive gas-guzzling SUV's.

It's also winter time for the US so trucks and 4 wheel drive are a more reliable option when the weather sucks. It doesn't matter how good the gas mileage in that prius is if you can't get it out of the driveway. Same reason that motorcycle sales are down sharply I'm sure....

weather sucks gas mileage prius driveway reason motorcycle sales sharply

I'm glad to see the gas prices comming down, but how long will it last? By the time spring comes around it will start rising again, & by summer $4.00 a gal. again!

gas prices will probably stay low for the long term. people are not spending on anything. opec knows it can't price gouge under these conditions or they will cease to exist.

It doesn't make sense to buy one because you won't be saving money anyway. You'd be better of finding a used Geo Metro or something like that :)

i commute in a scion xb. had it modified for better performance & gas milage. lots of room yet not as good mpg as a prius but almost 10k less.

we are just begging opec to stick it to us again.

And if they do stick it to us, we deserve it for being so ignorant.

On a lighter note, I had to find a new bumper sticker for my car, it said "When Bush took office, gas was $1.36 a gallon." A friend had one that said "If Col. Sanders was president and the price of chicken tripled, wouldn't you be suspicious?" They lost most of their effect after this price plunge.

I refuse to drive anything other than modern (1980s forward) cars, by the strictest definition, with engines no greater than 4 cylinders. It has nothing to do with the price of gas, since this code of mine excludes hybrids, because they have two motors so they don't qualify. I made this code because the cars that fit this code are basic boring cars, and I don't like cars and I hate the culture that surrounds cars with the totality of my being, so I don't want to get any sort of prestige for driving a "nice" car and I want to stay as far out of the obnoxious car culture as I possibly can, which includes all of that annoying "save the environment" stuff associated with hybrids.

A few months ago I would have signed up for that too. My motto was Keep Global Warming Going! Drive a Gas Guzzler!!! I would have gone way beyond driving a Hummer. Full size pre-emissions era classic cars and small commercial trucks were more my thing. But because auto enthusiasm lead me into extreme mental instability I'll pass on the car thing. But I will find something else to combat that obnoxious PC stuff with :)
