That, along with their insistence of neglecting a call for "meatless Monday" to reduce the need for precious water resources, has a very predictable and devastating outlook .... OBESITY!
I'm now beginning to understand why Rush Limbaugh and Chris Christie are so popular.
What do you think?

    Oh my word!
Using "independent and liberal" in the same sentence is an oxymoron. I don't support regressive leftwing behavior.
There is NO 'thinking' going on with regressive liberal ideology either. Adhering to failed social experiments is regressive.
People who are independent are usually not into liberal/libertarian drug addiction or liberal sexual deviance or liberal anti-family bigotry.

Mach, surely you have seen the stats that all of America is trending toward obesity!

Unless you have evidence that only Conservatives are represented in that trend, this whole link is moot.

The issue is preserving FREEDOM OF SPEECH in this nation! The supporters that rallied last week for the food chain were BOTH conservatives and liberals.

It is very likely that this link and some of the comments converted several liberals to conservatives. This kind of post doesn't impress thinking people.

Then why don't you get behind the efforts of Michelle Obama to put a curb on obesity?

There's never been an issue about free speech, but a stern protest against how profits from an enterprise are directed to organizations devoted to the hatred and opposition to the rights of American citizens.

Obesity manifests itself in more than one way, outward and inward, and you've failed to distinguish the two.

Converting a liberal to a conservative will take more than a few derogatory comments from an independent, LOL. My actions to defend good against evil are well received.

When reading your information concerning your question, I saw nothing concerning "outward as opposed to or including inward" obesity, so how could I fail to distinguish between the two? Perhaps you should create another question that addresses this interesting subject.

I planned to "get behind" our first lady in her efforts for curbing obesity. But when I "got behind her," I noticed that she had a bit of a problem in that area herself. I do also! So perhaps the blind shouldn't lead the blind. I speak for myself only; I am not denigrating her efforts to raise awareness.

I am much more concerned with the area of our declining right of FREEDOM OF SPEECH. To imply that the opinion (and/or actions) given by the food chain was devoted to hatred and a desire to take away human rights is erroneous. In case you haven't studied history, freedom of speach is a right.

And, you wish to take that away! Shame on you!

I wish you could understand that "differing opinions" do not necessarily constitute "hatred!'

You know something? I HATE abortion. Our coming generation is being destroyed. But, I do not suggest that pro-abortionists HATE the lives they fight to keep the right to take. They think and reason differently than I. Period! It would be irrational of me to hate them or label them as a group promoting hate.

Also, if you are serious about helping others re-consider their thinking on issues you feel they are wrong about, hurling abusive and slandering epithets won't win friends or influence enemies.

As for anyone remaining neutral, No. Those are the least effective people of all. I disagree with your thinking, but I do not want you to remain neutral. Communication is the only avenue we have for understanding each other.

And, as for where another person channels his/her money--not our business--unless it is illegal.

What kind of foolish question is this? Are you 13 years old without a clue?

You need to get a clue as to what this issue is all about because it's obvious you don't have one.

What does meatless Monday, precious water resources, Rush Limbaugh and Chris Christie have to do about anything pertaining to the issues of Chick-fil-A's Constitutional right of freedom of religion and freedom of speech?

Make your best attempt to explain to everyone why you are not foolish.

You obviously have a problem with thinking also. I am in favor of gay marriage, and I am giving practical advice. You, on the other hand, are using emotion in place of logic and being unreasonable.

Frankly, people like you are the reason why gay right initiatives never succeed, because you fail to recognize empirical realities and go about advocacy the wrong way.

People like me could be a huge resource, but instead you choose to act like 5 year olds in the face of logic.

Understood, but those of us who want positive social change have to be smarter than the opposition. Conservatives expect liberals to be stupid, so why give them what we want?

This is probably why libertarians like myself are more effective at making these arguments. We see the bigger picture and tie it in with first amendment rights. Unfortunately, this also means we respect the first amendment rights of others who do not share the same view. This includes those who oppose gay marriage.

Gays indeed have the right to be married, and government has no business regulating marriage, but government also has no business promoting a McCarthyism version of homophobia either.
  • mach Jester ... 2012/08/05 14:00:46

It's about more than gay marriage here. It's about opening the floodgates to further division and uncompromise that will create a society based not on the quality of a product being offered by a business but the ideology of that business' leadership. Of course everyone has a right to their own freedom of expression, but from a business perspective, it's suicidal. The polititians you so despise for making "McCarthyistic" stands realize this potential division manifesting, and are simply reminding other business to maintain neutrality.

Please refer to my comment below sir. You do gays no justice by keeping this company in the media and sending every gay marriage detractor and their mother to the drive thru to buy their product.

I can tell by your questions that you are an intelligent gentleman. As such, I am sure you can ascertain the resultant behavior of what advocacy does in this situation.

While it might be difficult, walking a higher path on principle is the smart play here.Don't believe me? Wait till the CFA has its third quarter earnings statements and they report record profits from all regions.

The great thing about our country is that we have the right to believe as we please. As long as each of us respect that right we will be fine. When we try to suppress or otherwise persecute somebody because they don't agree with us then we treading where we ought not to.

Mr. Cathey has principles and is standing by them. I respect his right to do so.
