Will the GOP Really Help the Jobless?

Remember a couple of months ago when Republicans in Congress wanted to block an extension of benefits for the jobless? Well, guess what? According to outgoing House leader Democrat Nancy Pelosi, now that the GOP is taking over her chamber, all those jobless people who sat on the sidelines on Nov. 2 or who voted against Democrats could have their unemployment benefits cut off.

Speaking to The Huffington Post, Pelosi said one of her priorities in the upcoming lame duck session is to reauthorize unemployment insurance that is slated to run out at the end of November, potentially cutting off two million Americans.

"I have this impression that some of the people who did not vote Democratic … are people who don't have a job. And they need unemployment insurance and the Republicans are not for it,” she said, suggesting that rather than a rejection of Democratic ideas, the election’s results were a sign of frustration that the Obama administration’s policies didn’t create jobs fast enough.

The problem, she said, is you don’t get credit for stopping something from happening when what people want is to see forward progress.

“We believe that there's a big distinction between Democrats and Republicans, but nine and a half percent unemployment is just such an eclipsing phenomenon that no message really can come through unless it's a message that says, 'Here's your job,'" she said.

With the crucial vote on unemployment benefits coming up, Pelosi and the Democrats have an opportunity to put the narrative into the GOP’s lap and see how they deal with job creation.

Do you think the GOP will help the unemployed?

They already have - their election sweep has pressured dems to pressure obomb to continue the Bush tax cuts - this will allow businesses and business owners to make different types of plans for the year ahead and those plans will either save jobs or create new jobs. I've owned many businesses - penalizing those who are successful because they take risks to invest in the infrastructure of a company with a tax raise would have been really stupid. BUT if the republicans had not swept the elections I feel sure they would have allowed them to go through. There isn't a tax dollar that the democrats don't covet. It is out of fear for the 2012 elections that they did this. Otherwise why did they wait until after the 2010 elections to make this last minute decision? Hey in this case, Obomb is right BUSH DID IT!

A liberal is someone who feels a great debt to his fellow man, which debt he proposes to pay off with your money.
Tell a liberal how much you appreciate that the obamma economy is a system of checks and balances, he writes the checks, you pay the balance.
Question: Why did God give liberals annoying, whiny voices?
Answer: So even the blind could hate them.

The key to bringing down unemployment is to allow the private sector to flourish and grow. Companies will only start to hire new employees when there is an increased demand for the goods and services that the private sector supplies.

Companies do not exist just to give people jobs (which is what Obama thinks). Companies exist to provide a return on shareholder's investment. They do that by making a profit (another thing that Obama hates).

Allow the private sector to grow (instead of growing the government) and only regulate when there is an obvious need to regulate.

Huffington Post? It's official, SodaHead News is liberal.

How will you get "here's your job" when you're doing "here's your check?" How many years have they been awarding unemployment checks? 99 weeks is over 24 months and didn't we give and extension of three months?

Yeah, the GOP will TRY to help the jobless, but I'm guessing you mean give them more money, which is not the method they would use.

One statistic you'll never see: How many jobs are available compared to how many people are unemployed.

The company I work for has jobs. It involves high-tech robotic oil/gas well service tools and the company will train you. Employees can make about $50 - $70 K/year. Most of the US positions
are in Texas, but the company has bases world-wide, including Mexico, Brazil, Canada and Alaska.

It's not easy work but it's not 100% field work, either. Most on-site jobs last a day or two and there are bonuses and advancement for those who earn them.

Too many people want jobs that are M-F, 9-5, with every weekend off. Well, the way you get THOSE jobs is hard work, be reliable and learn the technology. Eventually you'll get promoted to management and get the good hours in an office environment.

Any change from the direction that were going is going to help it may not be a whole lot though. The Republicans only control to the house so lets not get too carried away here. The Dems are still in control. With that said lets examine why we have so many jobless. We have Mr. Tax and Spend (Obama) sitting on his throne threatening new taxes on a monthly standard it's no wonder business is moving overseas even more then before. Wanting to add to the already massive burden of regulations Mr. Tax and Spend wants to add even more.

At the end of the day if you had the money to open a business would you? Hell no you wouldn't not in this hostile environment brought to you by your not so friendly politicians.

They'll help the jobless all right.!
They'll help bring more hardship on those who don't comply to their new corporate rules and regulations for our Nation.
We will be more like China by the time they get through with it.
They are already forcing people to waver their Freedom and rights, for a job.
These are the same people that sent their jobs to other country's ,cut back on Millions of workers, put hiring Freezes on Jobs.
Sure they blame the Dems for making them pay more Taxes, and making laws to protect our enviroment.
And they blame the Dems for not providing more jobs ,even though they're the ones putting the hiring freeze on jobs.
It was the raising of the gas prices that started this recession. not Taxes.
And depite what they want you to believe, the most powerful corporation in the world ( the Gas company's) wasn't forced into it.
They did it to punish those interfeering with the way they run their business.
They've already come out and add mitted to it.

They will create lots of jobs at minimum wage, or less if they could get by with it. And those jobs will be part time, so we can have 2 or 3! And because those jobs will be part time, they won't have to dole out any benefits.
I once had a boss that when the employees asked for health insurance, she went out and bought a huge jar of vitamin C and put in on the lunch table. She was serious and thought she did a good thing. She was also a staunch Republican in every sense of the word, and would cram her political agenda down our throats every chance she got.

Nope. They'll line their own pockets, and those of the rich. They don't like poor people. They say that "they're not trying hard enough". Well, some of us do and we still can't get ahead. When they DO start caring for those who are poor, unemployed, and middleclass, THEN I'll say that they might help us. The GOP needs to stop judging us before they know what our situations are. Everybody's different.

Like Soros, Buffett, Gates, Disney and all the other rich folk who put Barrack Hussein in office?

Surely you're not implying that the Democrats give a fig about the jobless. For both Reid and Pelosi, as well as Barrack Hussein, have been trying to slip amnesty and everything else for the illegals past the voters [even a Dream Act to go to college for Chrissakes!], so as to encourage them to invite all their extended family members and job-stealing amigos to come here too!

The Dems are trying to encourage more illegals to come here stealing jobs, but the GOP is trying to do the reverse. So whatever you said about the GOP not caring about the jobless goes TEN-fold for the Democrats. Actions speak louder than words. Obama can claim all he wants that he wants to create jobs for Americans. But as long as he keeps trying to encourage more illegal aliens to come here, we can just disregard his rhetoric as the BS it really is.
  • TasselLady tncdel 2010/11/12 16:48:46
    TasselLady
You have good and bad in both parties. But The GOP seem more interested in money for themselves than for everyone else. Just how are they going to make anything better for ALL of us, and not just a select few??? I've heard very few Republicans say that THEY care about those who are in need. Not all of us who are Democrats agree with everything our government does. I don't like Pelosi myself, never did from the beginning.
  • tncdel TasselLady 2010/11/12 23:47:32
    tncdel
I'm NOT a Republican. And I blame a Republican, Reagan, for making what I deem the biggest mistake by any post-WW II president, by giving amnesty to the illegals back in the 80's, thereby encouraging millions more to come here since then. And now the Democrats are trying to "out-Reagan Reagan," rather than learn from his mistake, by giving not only amnesty, but everything else as well [even a Dream Act to go to college for Chrissakes!].

This is one issue of great importance that partisan loyalties need to be set aside, to unite in solid opposition to amnesty and the Dream Act or anything else for illegal aliens, except stiff fines and deportation. We need to make things so tough on them that they voluntarily go back to Mexico, etc.
  • TasselLady tncdel 2010/11/13 13:45:50
    TasselLady
If that bill which passed in 1986, the one regarding illegal aliens getting free healthcare if they came to this country had been brought to we the American people, I never would have allowed it. Healthcare is expensive, and now because we've given everything to the illegals, they've decided to take everything else we have too. I'm all for a better life, but they need to do it in the right way. I'm all for stopping illegal immigrants unless they're willing to go through the proper channels for citizenship. I wish we could fix the problem. Unfortunately it's been going on for decades, and the small problem has turned into a huge monster, one in which the government is responsible for getting rid of. What kills me too is that when we did finally try to do something, the illegals screamed about their "rights". They aren't even legal here and they have the same "rights" as those of us who LIVE and were BORN here? It's really sad.

Two ways to read that question:

    1. "Will the GOP give handouts?" And of course the answer to that is NO.

    2. But if it is construed as asking, "Will the GOP make our country's economy stronger so fewer will be unemployed?" Then the answer is a resounding YES.

Basically this is the difference between the Dems' "giving fishes to feed," or the GOP's "teaching how to fish for one'self." Handouts at taxpayer expense won't help us in the longrun. Stimulating the economy to create more jobs, etc. will.

Just look at how Pelosi and Reid have been diabolically trying to slide amnesty and the everything else for the illegals past the voters [even a Dream Act to go to college for Chrissakes!], so as to encourage them to invite all their extended family members and job-stealing amigos to come here too!

Obviously the Democrats care more for FOREIGN NATIONALS HERE ILLEGALLY than for our own unemployed citizens.

Two, we are asking all of you, including the many new supporters who have signed up during the elections, to take immediate activist actions.

Our strategy is to ask Democrat members of Congress to "reject the Dream Act Amnesty for illegal aliens and to remove Nancy Pelosi from her leadership role."

STEP 1: Please use this link to access ALIPAC's contact information list for the US Congress and begin calling as many Democratic offices as possible. Yes, you can and should call any and all Democratic members in America, even if you do not live in their district.

Start with the Democrats (marked with a D) in your state and then move on to your adjacent states!

    Contact Info Link
    http://www.alipac.us/ftopict-...

STEP 2: Call each Democrat in the US House and leave the following message with staff and voice-mail. "I just received word that Nancy Pelosi is pushing the Dream Act Amnesty for millions of illegal aliens. Didn't Democrats get the message on Nov. 2? I'm calling to ask Congressman/Congresswoman ____________ to oppose the Dream Act Amnesty and to remove Nancy Pelosi from the role as leader of the Democrats before she causes the Democratic Party and America more harm."

STEP 3: Once you have called in with your message, attempt to reinforce it it with a written email, fax, or letter.

    STRATEGY

We may be able to stop the Dream Act Amnesty by getting more Democrats to reject Nancy Pelosi who is campaigning to be minority leader even after leading the Democrats into historic political destruction.

Focus on Democrats, be polite and firm. Focus on calls, calls, calls, followed by written reinforcement of your message.

Remember that calls are your most effective way of influencing Congress and that ALIPAC's methods are tried, true, and proven effective. Do not take shortcuts by just sending emails. Make your efforts count with calls first, followed by written messages.

Illegal alien supporters are rallying their people to the phones, now let's get you ALIPACers on the battle field!

    Stop Pelosi! Stop Amnesty!

ALIPAC's top activists are standing by to assist you 24/7! You can post any questions, feedback, suggestions, or review the comments of others at this activism tracking link for this effort at....
