This week’s presidential debate should have provided voters with some
answers on the tragedy that happened in Benghazi, Libya on Sept. 11.
Instead, we heard more confusing statements from President Obama.

But this Monday, at the third and final presidential faceoff between
Obama and Romney, the focus will be on foreign affairs — and the
President must finally come clean.

There are two main issues: the failure by the Obama administration to
secure the consulate in Libya in the run-up to the attack, and the
conflicting stories and lack of credible information in the weeks that
followed.

Raising these questions is not playing politics; it addressing critical national security concerns.

By now, Obama should have held a national press conference on the
murders in Benghazi and the mess that followed in the way his
administration has handled it.

Dead Ambassador Stevens

They will lie till the election is over. They cannot afford the truth with the election around the corner. Then when they lose, the truth will come out they will never admit to it. They are Democrats. Lying is their life.

Facts regarding the attack that killed four American in Benghazi:

    1. It is a FACT that the insulting video sparked the attack:

    [QUOTE]
The assault on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi last month appears to have been an opportunistic attack rather than a long-planned operation, and intelligence agencies have found no evidence that it was ordered by Al Qaeda, according to U.S. officials and witnesses interviewed in Libya.

…[I]n in Benghazi, witnesses said members of the group that raided the U.S. mission specifically mentioned the video, which denigrated the prophet Muhammad.

    2. It is a FACT that the attack was an act of terrorism: ANY unlawful violence for political purposes may be considered "terrorism" regardless of whether or not they were preceded by demonstrations:

    3. It is a FACT that initial intelligence reports, echoed by the Obama administration, indicated that the attack was predicated upon demonstrations:

    [QUOTE]
Unclassified documents from the Central Intelligence Agency suggest the answer may have to do with so-called talking points written by the CIA and distributed to members of Congress and other government officials, including Susan Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. The documents, distributed three days after the attacks that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens, said the events were spontaneous.

The talking points say, among other things, “The currently available information suggests that the demonstrations in Benghazi were spontaneously inspired by the protests at the US Embassy in Cairo and evolved into a direct assault against the US diplomatic post in Benghazi and subsequently its annex. There are indications that extremists participated in the violent demonstrations.”

In addition, the briefing says this “assessment may change as additional information is collected” and that the “investigation is on-going.”

The theory that the attacks were spontaneous was echoed by White House Press Secretary Jay Carney on Sept. 14, just three days after the attacks, and again on Sept. 16 by Ambassador Rice. On Sept. 18, Carney said, “Based on information that we—our initial information, and that includes all information—we saw no evidence to back up claims by others that this was a preplanned or premeditated attack.”

    4. It is a FACT that President Obama called the murders "acts of terror" the day after the attack (September 12):

"No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for. Today we mourn four more Americans who represent the very best of the United States of America. We will not waver in our commitment to see that justice is done for this terrible act. And make no mistake, justice will be done."

On September 13, at a campaign event in Las Vegas, Obama vowed to bring the killers to justice. He then added, "No act of terror will dim the light of the values that we proudly shine on the rest of the world, and no act of violence will shake the resolve of the United States of America."

"White House spokesman Jay Carney sought to clear up any confusion on September 20: "It is, I think, self-evident that what happened in Benghazi was a terrorist attack. Our embassy was attacked violently, and the result was four deaths of American officials."

I do not understand what the hoopla is about. President Obama is ultimately responsible for intelligence failures in Libya, just like President Bush was ultimately responsible for intelligence failures regarding 9/11 and the Iraqi threat.

Did we see conservatives yapping at Bush for MUCH worse intelligence failures compared to the Libya attack? I think not! In fact, he was elected to a second term despite wasting untold thousands of lives and trillions of dollars. This irrefutably reveals their hypocrisy!

FYI: As a general rule, the President is only advised of threats that rise far above the routine threats detected by the Intelligence Community around the world. Intelligence PROFESSIONALS make these threat assessments, and send them up through the chain of command.

Although hindsight is 20/20, analysts must work with EXISTING threat information to produce intelligence reports. When terrorists employ sufficient operational security, they ensure that THEIR threat does not stand out from OTHER threats that intelligence analysts invariably encounter. This is why intelligence reporting to Presidents Bush and Obama cannot be reasonably faulted for failure to detect either the 9/11 or Benghazi attacks. (On the other hand, the faulty Iraqi threat reporting CAN be faulted for failure to use due diligence.)

Some Sodaheads seem to suffer from asinine assumptions that the White House is routinely involved in security for diplomatic facilities. Such specious speculation is as delusional as ASSumptions that the White House is routinely involved in security standards for military facilities. This would be micromanagement at its worst, akin to a state governor managing courthouse security or the highway patrol.

On the contrary, diplomatic security is routinely managed by professional Special Agents of the Diplomatic Security Service, not political appointees such as the Secretary of State:

    [QUOTE]
The Assistant Secretary of State for Diplomatic Security is in charge of the Bureau of Diplomatic Security and the Office of Foreign Missions (OFM). Under the Assistant Secretary of State are several Deputy Assistant Secretaries; the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary is the Director for the Diplomatic Security Service (DSS). The DSS is an organization within the Bureau of Diplomatic Security (DS). The Director for the Diplomatic Security Service, who is the top ranking, active Special Agent in the service, leads a force of Special Agents, Diplomatic Couriers, Security Engineering Officers, and Security Technical Specialists. Special Agents are sometimes referred to as "DS Agents" or "DSS Agents." Both terms are used interchangeably within the agency and other organizations.

I think you've gone around the bend, K. Obviously you've been out of the loop for a couple of weeks and are reading old news. If I were you, I'd not prostitute my good name for the benefit of a liar who doesn't appreciate your trying to take a bullet for him. He merely holds you in disdain for being so naive.

At least you quote a fine upstanding decent American, Democrat, liberal Pat Moynihan, one of the last decent democrats on earth. I was sorry to see him go, and I cannot believe you are quoting such a decent person, given that you buoy up this sorry excuse for a President. Moynihan would have had him in the corner within a week, and he would have taught him what it is like to be a gentleman. Obama and Moynihan were as opposite as two people can be.

Because we can handle the truth. He can't because he is the cause of the tragedy and too chicken to be able to take the heat of getting our people killed.

The President apologized for America overseas!
Since he has been in office he has not taken responsibility or apologized to the American people! It's all Bushs fault etc.!
TAside from Benghazi ,the latest, that I'm aware of ,was when he was overheard with Putin telling him he would take care of the issue after the election! Can you just imagine what we don't know?!
This is the mans personality! It won't change!!
I would like to think that Romney is a more honorable man!

Great comment! I'd prefer the American public would vote both major parties out of the running this time, although I know it won't happen. This election was the perfect time to break the monopoly and if it doesn't happen this time, it will never happen and we will be saddled with the status quo the rest of our lives. I've already voted - against both major parties, for Gary Johnson. Wish everyone would do the same. Everybody tells me it is not possible, but the word "impossible" is not in my vocabulary.

I wonder how many papers the moderator will have to have to try and cover for Obama this time. I loved how Candy Crowley just happened to have the complete transcript right at her disposal? Set up or what?

I certainly believe this White House totally directs all debates. It's easy to direct the media as they are as one with the WH. It is time the American people FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGE THE WHITE HOUSE RESIDENTS. The we can FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGE THE PRESS.
