Will Starbucks Take Over the Tea Industry?

Starbucks is the King of Coffee Shops, but can it expand its empire to include tea, as well? The Seattle-based corporation will launch its first tea bar this year near its headquarters, where customers will be able to choose from more than 80 different types of tea that they can blend together as desired. It's not clear what the bar will be called, but The Huffington Post reports that it will not use the same logo.

So far, Starbucks has not announced any plans to expand the business beyond a single outlet, but they will be teaming up with Tazo, a billion-dollar brand, so chances are there are bigger wheels in motion behind the scenes. Do you think Starbucks can dominate tea like it does coffee, or will this just turn out to be a failed experiment?

I may be wrong, most certainly am, but when I drank coffee I went for plain black coffee, and for the last 15 years, I like plain black tea. A teabag or bulk tea per cup is merely a pittance, I would not pay $3 for a cup on a regular basis. Give me a cup of hot water, I carry my own tea.

They make it WAY too strong. I buy Starbucks beans in the bag and have them grind it medium in the store, then use only 2 heaping tablespoons for a pot of coffee. That is plenty strong and the bag lasts forever.

I hope tea drinkers are not stupid enough to pay $2.85 for tea and milk. If they are then they are as stupid as the coffee drinkers and deserve what they get.

Even though people know that tea costs $00.02 a glass to make. They will let Starbucks hoodwink them into believing that theirs is a much more refined blend and such great care goes into brewing using only the finest tea from heaven knows where in the best growing region of some place we have never heard of.

No animals were harmed in the growing and possessing of their tea and it was lovingly harvested under the strictest government regulations.

The water used is from the highest mountain springs and only after passing a professional taste test can it be used in Starbucks tea.

Go ahead and plunk down a five note and change and dont forget to extend the pinky.

As long as I can make a gallon of sun tea for less than a dollar, I'm not tempted. I don't think there are enough hot tea drinkers to make it that worthwhile.

Who goes out to drink tea, anyway? I drink tea sometimes that I make myself in my own home, but I wouldn't drink overpriced Starbucks tea. Probably isn't even good quality tea either.

Starbucks is expensive but it also has an expensive taste. I can always taste the difference in their products compared to a coffee from McDonalds. So I would imagine their tea would be as good.

What Tea Industry? How many Tea Houses are in any American Town?

Personally, I get sick from coffee, can't even breathe the fumes. I would like to see some places to relax with a good, well made cup of tea.

    You're a moron Mr. John12.
And your "mantra" is BS. It's simply not true. All developing countries-- including South Africa have increasing immigration. South Africa's white European immigrant population has increased by more than 50% since 2005.
