Will Republicans mention the $400 million taxpayer bailout that Mitt Romney got for the Salt Lake City Olympics?

Roger47 2012/08/26 17:56:08
Nope.
Yes, they will give taxpayers credit for bailing out the Olympics

Mitt Romney will be given credit at the Republican convention for "saving" the Salt Lake City Olympics. But the only reason he was able to do that was he went to his fellow politicians and got them to agree to fork over over $400 million of our taxpayer dollars to bail the Olympics out. John McCain has in the past called this a huge waste of taxpayer dollars. Do you think Republicans will mention the bailout at the convention?

Yea right. They complained about the bailout that Obama gave but failed to recall that the bailouts were started by bush with TARP1.

wont even come up. What will come up is how millionaires and billionaires need another tax cut to "jump start" the economy. So, while the Bush tax cuts have remained in place, how come the economy is not humming along with all this "trickle down" money? The only thing Reaganomics has ever done is widen the wealth gap.

True... But BOTH halves of TARP were done by Bush... He just scheduled the 2nd round to begin after his term was over. He also started the auto bailout... Something that the right wing conveniently ignores.

    And it would not matter!

Republicans will vote for a dog as long as it is Republican. This is why the majority of them claim to be Christian. It does not matter that the policies failed before, it does not matter that this is what has put the economy in the trash. It does not matter that this man is not fit to be called American, he is REPUBLICAN so we have to vote for him. F***ing sheeple.

In 2008 the Republicans knew that Romney was not a viable choice just as they do now. This is the one thing that Republicans and Democrats have agreed on in the past.

As an Independent I say vote for the person, not the party. We went twenty years without a Republican president because of this crap. Perhaps it is time to wake them up again.

That began with the 1984 Summer Olympics in L.A and has been the norm every time the games were held in the USA since.

Atlanta 1996 cost taxpayers $500 Million for infrastructure and the Federal govt. picked up the tab for all security. The net profit was a measly $10 Million for a total of $1.8 Billion invested compared to Salt Lake City 2002 netting $101 Million profit for $1.2 Billion invested.

Salt Lake City was also on the heels of 9/11 with enhanced security costs.

It wasn't the Romney Olympics. He came in after they were riddled with scandals and $350 Million in the hole, turned it around and it went off without a hitch.

Teachers are pussies these days. Their counterparts in the 60's 70's and into the 80's had 25-30 pupils per class. Now they bitch about 15-17 while having the advantage of electronic baby-sitting devices called computers. Teachers SUCK compared to past generations and are barely one page ahead of the class.

Why do we have to add more fire & police? Are our neighborhoods burning out of control on a daily basis? Do we need 20 people hanging out at the firehouse 24/7 instead of 10, waiting for something to happen?

Do you really think that putting a cop on every street corner would prohibit criminals from carrying out their deeds?

No,... we need society to get some common sense and stop electing idiots into office that let the criminals back on the street after a slap on the wrist. Idiots who allow sanctuary cities that breed gang activity and violence.

OK, so you didn't comprehend that either.

The top 10% in the USA pays 70% of the total Federal tax burden while the bottom 49% don't pay a dime and many get $$$ they never earned to begin with.
Show me ANY country where the top 10% carries 70% of the tax load.

    Your figures are incorrect.
As of 2005 the top 1% accounted for 28% of federal government tax revenues. That isn’t because they are taxed at an outlandish rate; an effective tax rate of 30-40% is hardly confiscatory. Instead, it’s because they get a very large share of the country’s income — 18% as of 2005.

Simple, the rich make so much more here than elsewhere, so they pay more taxes.

I find it strange why so many are upset with people making $30k or less not paying taxes?

During Coolidge's presidency, the top 2% paid 100% of the taxes.

Ever live in Germany? Do you know how much the average German makes? I could go on but it would be useless.

I lived in Germany for about four years. My wife was German before she took the American Citizenship test and My bother in-law still lives there. Germany keeps health care cost down by limiting the amount doctors can charge. This means a gallbladder operation in North Germany does not cost $150.00 while in South Germany it costs $1500.00 .

I do not agree with everything Germany does but I lived there and never saw a person living in a cardboard box. I never had a beggar approach me on the street. The wealthy still drove their BMW 850 I, which was $100,000. Lived in their fancy home.

The odd thing is I never heard them complain as much as I do wealthy Republicans. They claim to be christian and want to financially rape people. They are afraid to pay taxes or serve in the military but expect everything to go there way.

You seem to be an older Gentlemen, according to your avatar, tell why we went 20 years without a Republican President? Eisenhower figured it out and changed his strategy.

You're leaving out the largest difference.
Germany (and most of Europe for that matter) have serious tort caps and their doctors & hospitals aren't paying outrageous premiums to guard against lawsuits as is the case in the USA.

There are 15 million tort cases filed in the U.S. every year and a majority of them involve medical insurance, pain & suffering, mental anguish etc etc etc .
One way or another, the awards won in these cases trickle down to the consumer through higher fees & premiums.

On the surface, it looks looks like a company, a doctor, a hospital, the driver of the other car, etc,... were found guilty and ordered to pay the settlement.
In reality, the insurance companies pay these settlements which gets passed directly onto consumers to cover the losses.

Frivolous lawsuits, bogus claims, what-not, are prosecuted in Germany, hence you don't have shyster lawyers, 'expert testimony witnesses' and plaintiffs rolling the dice on getting caught.

Only in America can you slip on a French fry your own kid dropped, get a boo-boo on your butt, and become and overnight millionaire because your life will never be the same.
