Please understand - I'm not cheering the arrival of Romney by any means. I'm just observing that there's going to have to be a whopper of an October surprise to save Obama's chances as I see them. If he gets China to forgive ALL our debt and kick in another five trill? That might do the trick. Short of that? He's gone-zo.
I go to Intrade.com and look at the Obama stock. It gives him a 56% chance of re-election. Seriously? These are real people betting real money on the fact that it will happen. I would have expected the number to be half of that. Convinced I'm right - I explain this by saying there are a few zealots that have overwhelmed the system, and they are making emotional purchases that over-count their actual numbers. Okay, maybe... but I'm making an excuse.
But then look at the polls. Pick your favorite, but I happen to like RealClearPolitics.com because they bundle lots of polls in one place. Most show Obama with a decent lead here, too. Really? What? So I can continue in my conviction and say the polls are bad or skewed or outright rigged. But what if they aren't? More excuses.
How can we explain the difference between what we see and hear in our own lives and the data that other people are giving us? One possibility is that respondents are actually lying to the pollsters when called, and my theory about emotional investments on Intrade is sound. The alternative is that the data is re...

At the same time, I'd kinda really like a better option for explaining the growing delta between my own life experiences and data sheets. Got one?
