It would end the war on drugs and would reduce crime overall. In every part of the world where drugs were legalized, regulated, and taxed the impact has been tremendously positive. We could turn a big negative in to a huge positive. In addition whether legal or not drug use will continue, because you cannot effectively legislate morality.

Yes legalizing drugs will effect the war on drugs by ending it. It would reduce a need for a prison industrial complex second to none and allow the country to spend its resources on things that will actually help society instead of against it.

Legalizing drugs would effectively end the "war on drugs". The tax revenue would help us get out of debt, the regulation would keep it out of childerns hands. The reduction of inmates in the prisons and enofrcement cost would reduce expenditures in federal and state. All in all we would save hundreds of billions of dollars and get a tax revenue of hundreds of billions of dollars. And less broken lives.

Whether drugs are legal or illegal they will continue to add to the degradation of our society.

Agreed - although I'll take the impact of marijuana any day over alcohol and probably even tobacco.
