Will a budget deal be struck before the end of the year?

If the nation goes over the "fiscal cliff," some Americans will wake up Tuesday with financial headaches to rival a New Year's Eve hangover.

More than 2 million long-term jobless would receive their final unemployment benefit check within days. Millions of taxpayers would be unable to file their returns early, resulting in delayed refunds. Taxes would rise immediately on workers across the board. And although some of those increases may eventually be reversed, the first paychecks of the year would be smaller until any legislative fixes kick in.

By deal, I mean something substantial. Congress is no longer substantial, but an obstruction to legitimate progress and recovery!

Who cares? This is political theatre. The Republican and Democratic Parties have outlived their usefulness. But they both know, that as long as they keep their followers rabidly attacking each other, then those followers will fail to notice the fox in the hen house! It is time to FIRE every single representative with an R or D behind their name! Our government can be streamlined, taxes do not need to be raised, and a balanced budget can be created- but not as long as we continue to allow ourselves to be programmed to HATE each other! Not as long as we continue to IGNORE the shenanigans of these two parties!

The Senate passed something, and now it has to pass the house. The party of NO controls the house. Not a chance of them voting yes, on anything.

    It's no problem.

Obama won, in case you haven't noticed.

Tax hikes, NO spending cuts. Spending INCREASES!

We'll just have to keep borrowing.....oops....we're already at the debt limit.

    ...(never mind)....

Don't you believe that the world market will ever set a REAL borrowing limit?

You don't think anyone (China, etc.) will EVER want to get paid back?

    Good luck with that.

    Obama wins.

Tax hikes, NO spending cuts. Spending INCREASES!

Oh, well. We'll just have to keep borrowing to fund the government.

This is a fake, media driven, event. Congress can always pass some bill and make it retroactive to Jan 1 so there is no problem.
What I don't understand is why Democrats, who opposed the Bush Tax cuts, NOW insist on extending most of them. They were perfectly willing to sell the middle class down the river in 2001 and 2003 but NOW they want to help "the middle class" as long as it includes all those $100K plus public employees.

"This is a fake, media driven, event."

THAT is absolutely correct on ALL points..

NEVER let a crises go to waste even if you have to CREATE one yourself..

This WHOLE " over the cliff " thing was conjured up to make BAD LAW more palatable..

We've been hearing for TWELVE YEARS about how the Bush Tax Cuts caused this economic crises.. NOW the SAME people are saying that the tax cuts are necessary to SAVE the economy because the DEMOCRATS want them....

MEANWHILE.. Obama signs PAY RAISES for Congress and Federal Employees into LAW while the rest of America is poised to go over this so called cliff..
  • Eric Hawkeye 2013/01/01 16:15:21
    Eric
Great point. Weird isn't it? Those demonized Bush tax cuts that all Democrats voted against 12 years ago are now so admired that Democrats want to continue them. Were they too stupid to understand that they helped the middle class 12 years ago?

It would be nice if Democrats had a value system but they just flutter in the wind. Never know what they will support, until it is too late.
  • Hawkeye Eric 2013/01/01 16:32:20
    Hawkeye
There is but ONE way to be able to determine whether Democrats support something or not..

    IF it's a Republican thing,, ,, It's the APOCALYPSE

IF it's a Democrat thing..EVEN if it's the EXACT same thing,, EVEN if they STOLE the Idea from a Republican,, it's the SALVATION of ALL of mankind but only AFTER the Democrats pick it up....

Take the Patriot Act.. Bush NEVER did ANY of the things that the left said he did.. NEVER.. And yet the Left HOWLED in rabid rage over it for BOTH of his terms....

Obama has done EVERYTHING that they blammed Bush for and NOBODY on the left says a word..

A deal was struck but what a load of crap. These jackasses take us to the edge of a "cliff" and when they make an eleventh hour deal they expect to be seen as heroes. They should all be fired...every last one of them. VOTE OUT THE INCUMBENTS!!!! ALL OF THEM!!! It will take some time but within six years we should have new representation in Washington.
  • Eric wulfsong 2013/01/01 16:11:37

Our media is so damn stupid it is irritating. The news headlines now is that a deal was struck and the cliff is averted. Then we read that the Senate agreed to something. The problem is that "silly" thing called the Constitution which states rather clearly"

    "Section. 7.

All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills."

Who cares what the Senate does. The House is the important branch here. Doesn't our esteemed media know this?

Have you read anything about the House agreeing to anything? This is a bogus agreement presented for propoganda purposes.
  • wulfsong Eric 2013/01/02 02:00:40

Agree. I noticed that after I investigated a little bit more. The house was supposed to meet today to vote in it but boehner said they and the public should have a chance to read and digest the proposal before a vote was made. Haven't heard the outcome from the house yet but they were "assuming" it would pass the house because the senate vote was very bipartisan with only 8 voting against it.
