People should do research before yapping off at the mouth. White Americans are about 80 percent of congress if not more. There is a Caucus for every minority as well, not just Black. This isn't a leftist hypocrisy, but a right wing make believe issue. There is an Asian, Hispanic, Jewish, Native American etc...caucus. It's kind of sad people don't know this.

Not to mention congress is 80 percent White, if not more; I'm really getting tired of these people bitching. If they want a White Caucus, give the majority seats up to minorities and then they could have one or shut up.

The vast majority of those receiving welfare from their state or the Federal government, and the vast majority of those filing Federal tax returns without owing any FIT, are white persons livng in one of the "red" red states where the Republican parrty is acknowledged as a dominate political force and electing Republicans to Congress and their statehouses.

The only stats I know of where blacks outnumber whites, both in count and ration to their demographics, is the prison populations of the nation, those unemployed, and the numbers of families living below the poverty line.

Black history month is still important; it's the only time when Black history is actually taught. Most of these idiots don't even know of the Black heroes of the Revolutionary war among other things. It should be included in American history all year round.

Teach about black contribution to america in schools sure. All I am saying is that it makes it a bit trite to confine it to one month. Most students are not told about black revolutionaries but what they are told is only about mlk goerge Washington carver, Rosa parks etc, very common knowledge and it is insulting to just go through the motions of respect year after year. real apprecuation comes not from a holiday

The month is for every American to have fun and appreciate their fellowman contribution to society. People are making it into something it is not because of their own inner bigotry or misunderstanding. I celebrate Italian, German, Latin, Irish, Native American, Asian etc..months all of the time with no complaining, but when it comes to Black history month the problems occurs. I find that interesting.

St Patricks day isn't about white or black its about the country and its people... and even then its mostly about beer covers and the color green. It is not a holiday to raise awareness, for most people it is an excuse to get sloshed

The purpose of black history month has passed, noe it seems a bit insulting to have a specific month to parade out the mant accomplishments of those with african heritage, almost like people feel sorry for them so they need to try extra hard

So I'm guessing all of these other months other ethnic groups have is suppose to be insulting as well. Like I stated before, only when it comes to Black people someone has something to say. Black history month is just for Black people but for other Americans as well.

My argument still stands. None of these months are celebrated as such and I think most americans do not know thy exisr. Again saint patrics day is rarely celebrated as an ethnic pride thing. And none of this history is taught about in schools just for that month. If kids learn about the genocide of American Indians all year round it is silly to say dubious, Washington, and carver are only for one month

I would not agree with that. Most people like it. The difference to me is that very very few people take asain history month seriously. Some have commented that this kind of special case for black history month is a but apologetic sounding and trivializes the great achievements of those with African heritage. Morgan freeman made this point and said black history is American history. There is no white history month and that is good too, but by having a black history month some feel that it is more of a PC thing on the part of the establishment and is thus belittling.

But to be honest I am playing devils advocate her, this is not an issue I care deeply about I just have a slight sway towards the opinion that it is not as important as it once was

And hey at least I'm not saying it is a conspiracy theory like some wackjobs on here

There is Irish, Italian, German etc...history month, are German Americans not White all of a sudden? On top of their even being a Jewish American heritage month. The point I'm making is that we are all Americans yet diverse, why not have fun in celebrating that?

I understand that but the thing is that people do not go out of their way to celebrate those months, most americans could not tell you what month german history month is. I think Black history month is a bit insulting as it is kind of like the system saying "oh yeah we need to be nice to you guys so we can look good" at least it is now, I mean just look at how companies have co-opted it to use it as a promotion of their product.

It's not an insult; people rather attempt to turn it into something it isn't instead of just celebrating. I never heard of German, Irish, Native American months as an insult. Again, some of the others are overlooked, because people don't vilify them to the point of repulsion. The same thing when it comes to the Black Caucus, people want to pretend as if it is the only one.

I am not saying its right, it isn't. However that is how Americans see it so I think it is flawed to draw a comparison between black history month because st Patrick day is not about Irish history and pride anymore, at least not for most people.

Exactly. It is also necessary to prevent intimidation by majority groups in congress. This would be very important if you were a black man in Washington during a time where people were still being lynched regularly for even looking at a white woman
