Why should I treat Obama any differently than I have any other president before him?

Marie/M2M2K™-#1ConservativeGuru 2009/10/08 21:19:35
This is why he should be treated differently from any other president before him...
Hey, I didn't realize that was the practice of some people to call presidents by their last name so I'm sorry for attacking people now.
I'm an Obama supporter, and it does not bother me for people to call him by his last name.
I'm not an Obama supporter but I feel like you are wrong in not addressing him as "President," and here's why....
I'm not an Obama supporter, and there is nothing wrong with referring to him by his last name because...
I'm an Obama supporter and think the way he is addressed is a non-issue because there are bigger problems than that.

My entire life I have referred to presidents by their last name. Perhaps that's not proper etiquette, but I have treated no other president different in that respect. Whether you like or not, it's me. (And don't forget, you are part of the party that claims to be tolerant.) And I'm not alone in the practice of calling presidents by their last name.

I'm finding some in particular that like to attack for not using the word, "president" before Obama, yet they are the same people I see on other polls calling GWB, "Bush," as well as many other former presidents.

Why do you attack those of us who refer to him by his last name when we have also used the same practice with every other president before him? Why should any of us treat him any differently than we have all others?

BTW, I am asking this question after reading some of the responses today on another poll posted by a military person. The difference in this question from that one is that in my case (and many others btw) they've used this practice all their lives and want to know why the practice is now being attacked by SOME of those who support Obama.

It's ridiculous that people actually get their panties in a bunch over something this trivial; but then again, I've been called a racist and the dreaded "hater" simply for daring to criticize the President on a point of policy, so I'm not surprised. There's nothing wrong with calling the President simply "Obama."

Not only is it a non-issue in light of our bigger problems, but some people might have legitimate issues with the President and choose to address him with a derogatory name. It's an age-old practice in American politics.

Do I condone calling him names like "Obummer" or "Odumbo"? No, not at all. I don't think it adds anything to the conversation or debate, and I believe it absolutely just turns people off when they see it. For my own part, I try to make a point of referring to him as "the President" or simply "Obama."

But it's our right as American citizens to call any President whatever we want. It's just not a very useful rhetorical device.

It is a mental and social attitude thing,. He is "ALL of OUR"
president. The office designates the most powerful man in the world, representing the most free, happy and prosperous people. Perhaps by only calling him by his surname, it diminishes all of our position in the world, and that pleases liberals!

DEMOCRATS, REPUBLICANS, COMMUNISTS, SOCIALISTS, AND THE REST DOESN'T DEFINE WHO YOU ARE; IT'S WHAT YOU DO THAT DOES. NOW YOU CALL THIS GUY "MY FRIEND". WHY WOULD I HAVE HIM FOR A FRIEND? Yes he is! He peeps telling us the same old LIES in an effort to make more Americans become FOOLED as you apparently are.

0bama is an Arrogant Damn FOOL! He started out his administration by telling the Republicans that he won, so he would do as he damn well pleased. That has led to him being UNABLE to pass his lousy DeathScare bills, and his Democrats in Congress are scared to DEATH that they will have the 0bamaDeathScare Debacle hanging around their necks like an anchor in the upcomming elections.

0bama is trying alright. He is trying, and SUCCEEDING in spliting America wide apart. How proud you must be today ... NOT!

I will refer to him as Obama and if I ever met him in person, I would be polite and civil enough to refer to him as "Mr. Obama". I, as one of many, question his eligibility to hold the Office of the Presidency under our Constitution. Until the matter is resolved, this is the best I can do. For having the most "transparent administration", a campaign claim, he certainly has locked up all his records and has not been forthright at all. I don't trust him in the least.

You have to treat him differently because he's half black and it would be super racist to treat him equally. You have to put him up on a pedestal above all previous presidents because they were all stupid white people... who weren't black.

(yes, that was meant to be dripping sarcasm all over the nice new floors)

and i didn't hear anyone complaining when we were all calling our previous president "dubya."
