Why Is The Equivalent Of A 9/11 Every Six Weeks Something That Americans Can ‘Live’ With?

Samantha 2012/07/22 20:44:47
One definition of madness is to repeat the same thing over and over and expect a different result. If that’s true, then our inability to regulate guns in this country is barking mad crazy.

Tens of thousands of Americans die every year from gunshot wounds. And guns are at the heart of the problem. According to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence:

An estimated 41% of gun-related homicides and 94% of gun-related suicides would not occur under the same circumstances had no guns been present (Wiebe, p. 780).

Higher household gun ownership correlates with higher rates of homicides, suicides, and unintentional shootings (Harvard Injury Control Center).

Keeping a firearm in the home increases the risk of suicide by a factor of 3 to 5 and increases the risk of suicide with a firearm by a factor of 17 (Kellermann, 1992, p. 467; Wiebe, p. 771).

Keeping a firearm in the home increases the risk of homicide by a factor of 3 (Kellermann, 1993, p. 1084).

The largest terror for Americans comes from…Americans. At this point, it’s pretty clear that the biggest threat to our well-being isn’t from “foreigners” or “extremist Muslims,” it’s from us, right here in the good ‘ol US. And somehow, for some reason, we’re okay with it. The number of people killed every six weeks in this country is the rough equivalent to the number of people killed in 9/11. Let that sink in for a moment: Every six weeks there is another 9/11 in body-count from gun violence here in the United States. So, why not regulate guns better? In fact, the Constitution specifically calls for that (as Homer Simpson might say, “Stupid socialist founding fathers”).

Stupid

Most of the murders are in Democrat run cities where most have stricter gun laws already.
Look at Chicago where Obama's right hand man took over, killings have increased.

This is why there should be more concealed weapon carry permits allowed!

In American politics, truth and logic always fare poorly when challenging the established order and deep-pocketed corporate interests.

But hey, look at the bright side. Nobody has seriously tried to invade us since the British tried in 1812 and got their asses handed to them after being blown off by a well armed electorate.

9/11 every six hours? Try about 1 9/11 in less than 3 weeks from car accidents. Or how about over 1 9/11 every 1.5 weeks from adverse reactions to prescription drugs?
Gun related injuries are pretty low compared to some of the real problems in this country.

    Also this is delusional thinking:
"An estimated 41% of gun-related homicides and 94% of gun-related suicides would not occur under the same circumstances had no guns been present"
If someone really wants to die, or wants to kill, there are billions of other methods. Many smart killers will resort to poison, knives etc. or better yet, obtain a gun illegally. Even countries with strict gun control do not keep guns out of the hands of criminals.

Oh please, the reason for these killings is the crazy American gun culture.

    http://www.politicususa.com/w...

They blame Landmark Theater using the Second Amendment, because the corporation created a rule that prohibits carrying a concealed weapon as a condition to enter into their theater, according to a conservative pro-gun lobby group USA Carry. Yet further research into the ownership of said theater company brings up some interesting facts…it’s owned by some pretty conservative groups like: Bain Capital, J.P. Morgan Partners, the Carlyle Group and Spectrum Equity Investors, to name a few.

Bain Capital? Mitt Romney Bain Capital? Yes. Under these major investors, the guidelines were created regarding the conditions under which people may enter into their theaters. These conservative groups have every right to put on conditions they deem necessary, as the right to bear arms ends when you step into a private corporation, much like banning members of the NRA from entering into their meetings with firearms.

We've already found Bain being run by Obama bundlers, so you might not want to go there.
As far as crazy gun culture? Look to the games offered to the young or growing up listening to Rap extolling the virtue of killing cops. Please don't consider the trash out of Hollywood! I have had a .45 ACP and a couple of AR 10s for quite some time now. I haven't shot anyone, yet, but I feel quite safe while at home at night! Oh, I first got to use these type of weapons as a employee of our government, the Army.

It's not crazy American gun culture. It's fame and/or revenge at all costs that's to blame.

I do believe more gun control is needed, however, I can see the other side of the coin. If law abiding citizens could carry concealed weapons, criminals would never know, if the guy they're contemplating mugging, might pull a gun on them. But the NRA, as well as many gun rights activists, go too far. Their is no reason to allow the sale of assault weapons, high capacity clips, or automatic weapons. There has to be a reasonable solution that will get some of these guns out of circulation, but protect our second amendment rights. But in today's political climate, only the extremists are heard, and compromise is no longer part of our political discourse.

Gun control, like abortion, has already been decided. It'll go nowhere. We might as well move on to some other issue that hasn't been decided.

It's a bird GW shot mistaking it for a dove, LOL. Cheney wasn't the only one to shoot something that wasn't in season. Please say you know who Ann Richards is. After all, if she had beaten W in the first election for governor the world would likely have been a whole other place. I really should have voted in that election but I thought there was no way Bush could beat her. I haven't missed an election since then.

    http://bradycampaign.org/fact...

In one year, 31,593 people died from gun violence and 66,769 people survived gun injuries (National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC)). That includes:

12,179 people murdered and 44,466 people shot in an attack (NCIPC).

18,223 people who killed themselves and 3,031 people who survived a suicide attempt with a gun (NCIPC).

592 people who were killed unintentionally and 18,610 who were shot unintentionally but survived (NCIPC).

Over a million people have been killed with guns in the United States since 1968, when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy were assassinated (Childrens’ Defense Fund, p. 20).

Over two million killed by motor vehicles since 1968....ban the auto!

Oh please, the issue is the easy accessibility of guns and the ability to kill many, many people at once. The insane American gun culture created this tragedy.

If you can't distinguish the difference between willingly driving an automobile and the insane gun culture, only a trained mental health professional could help you.

Do conservatives buy their crazy thinking from the same Wal-Mart shelf as they buy their racist, anti-Obama lies and crazy conspiracy theories?
