The United States of America was the first country to be founded on the liberal ideas of John Locke and other philosophers of the Enlightenment, with no monarchy, no hereditary aristocracy, and no established religion. The American Bill of Rights guarantees every citizen the freedoms advocated by the liberal philosophers: freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, the right to gather in peaceful assembly, the right to petition the government for redress of grievances, and the right to bear arms, among other freedoms and rights. In this sense, virtually all Americans are liberals. However, questions arose, both before and after the country was founded. In the Dred Scott decision of 1856-57, the Supreme Court ruled that these rights only applied to White men, and that Blacks had no rights what-so-ever that any White man was obliged to respect. Therefore the constitution was amended several times to extend these rights to ever larger classes of citizens, to all citizens in 1868, then specifically to Blacks in 1870, to women in 1919, and to people unable to afford a poll tax in 1964.
Liberals in most part more patriotic than most !
Why is it that according to many on this site, being liberal automatically equates to being unpatriotic and wanting to destroy the country?

This question just comes from observation and arguments I have gotten with other users. These are attacks I have witnessed for a while and to me they are ridiculous and subtract from the real issue at hand. Since when is expressing an opposing point of view considered unpatriotic in this country? How is wanted equal rights for all minority groups wanting to destroy the country?
What do you think about this?

Fascism gave the world unheard of atrocities that the right just doesn't want to own, it's the same with the left when you look at what people like Stalin did. But history is what it is.
I don't believe healthcare reform is a bad thing...sorry.
I can find you more. I remember one critique by a Jewish woman writer, but I can't find it right now...will keep looking.

I say put away your bigotry and think of the country not stubborn and complete intolerance of any creed, belief, or opinion that differs from one's own.
FYI, lobbyists are nothing more than a vehicle for organized corruption and cronyism, it breeds Corporatism (soft-fascism). Not sure if you know what that means either.
And no, FDR was certainly not one of the greatest presidents ever. He and Woodrow Wilson set us on the destructive course we're on today, massive government growth, spending, military industrial complex, the Federal Reserve, government intrusion, regulation, taxes without representation, massive entitlement programs, etc. (both Parties have adopted it). No, not a great President if you like individual freedom and liberty.
We have to right the ship and get back to our founding principles. Principles that put faith in the individual and the power resided with the states (see the 10th Amendment), not the collective and certainly not the federal government (see Article 1, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution).
And I talk to veterans all the time, my own brother is a Marine, they don't have a problem with me because they don't have a problem with our founding principles of limited government, lower taxes, and maximum freedom and liberty. You're just afraid of anyone touching your entitlement programs, even if they're trying to improve them.
"A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul."
Sometimes I wonder why I even try, but it beats having the same shouting match where we're both telling each other to STFU!
Perhaps it's because they praise racists like Al Sharpton and Sheila Jackson Lee, yet vilify people like Star Parker and Col. Allen West.
Perhaps it's because they've tuned into MSLSD and had to turn the volume halfway down.
Perhaps it's because statements made like "I'll have these N*****s voting Democrat for 200 years".
I could go on, but I think you get the drift.
