Why is it that a prisoner who murders numerous people.. gets a lethal injection, and dies withing 5 mins or less. But a love one who is terminally ill has to ride it out till they die! suffering for 5 to seven days.

That's a very difficult decision to make, as far as prisoners go, It's not so much easing their suffering, but the lethal injection is administered as punishment, not a way out, with free citizens, it probably is considered suffering, but Docs wont make that call because they too, don't wanna feel like they killed someone, regardless of how much time they may or may not of had left

Here in Washington we have the Death With Dignity Law.

Your mom should have not had to suffer . She should have been attached to a self administered pain relief machine. (morphine ) without limit on administration even to the point of lethal doses.

Here it takes 2 doctors to verify that you are eligible, and your family or yourself must as well approve. But you do have a right to death with dignity.

Good Question

When a family member or friend is dying, hospice is the way to go. Though they will not give you a magic cocktail they will make sure that death comes painlessly and with dignity. They also provide the survivors with counseling.
Visits by professional staff and volunteers
Nurse, social worker, PT, OT, SLT, massage therapist, acupuncturist, chaplain, bereavement counselor, and trained volunteers
Medications related to the terminal illness: prescriptions and over the counter drugs needed to relieve pain and other symptoms, including parenteral opioids, if necessary
Equipment and supplies: adjustable beds, commodes, oxygen, wheelchairs.
They gave my dad roxinal, morphine, ativan, ambien. He died painlessly but, you have to make the family member DNR with comfort measures only when the time nears.

Life support to a terminal patient in my opinion is torture and should be illegal.

The timing of this question is interesting. The courts in British Columbia are reviewing this issue right now, and it was on the evening news. This is yet another fight for freedom that we have to have against the religious busybodies who think they have a "right" to control other people.

We humans, are so far from how life should truly be. Very sad.

While I know why it's not a law for doctors to fullfill wishes to patients who want to die by injection, I agree that it should be a choice they should have and be able to ask. I could just see the system getting abused though y'know. It kinda worries me to make it legal though.

Sorry for you loss but really sorry for you having to watch her suffer. My Mother died in a car accident within 20 minutes. After all the emotion we realized that if she could have designed her own demise it would probably would have happened the way it did. Gone and a little insurance money. She would often say that she hoped she would be gone and no one would find her for three days, she was so afraid of being on a machine. The family should have the right to make the decision. You are right, murders get more compassion.

YES THE LAW SHOULD BE CHANGED! i had a friend who's dad was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. he was also a diabetic. when the time was getting close and he was starting to suffer. he filled a syringe with air and shot it into his vein. killed him in minutes.
