Make no mistake. These are revolutionary proposals, as revolutionary as Robespierre’s short-lived attempt to replace French Christianity with a new “Cult of the Supreme Being,” or the Bolsheviks’ effort to ban religion altogether, or the Nazis’ campaign to introduce “Aryan Christianity.” The vehemence and thoroughness of the campaign against religious practice bespeak a world in which our lives will be scientifically engineered by a benign and all-encompassing state.

Raising children, the Left believes, is too important to leave to families. The Left believes that the patriarchal family is the root of all evil. (I’m not exaggerating. I come from the Left. The witches’ brew of Freud and Marx and Frankfurt School and identity studies that the Left imbibes at our universities center on the evils inherent in the patriarchal family.)

And family structure is weakening of its own accord in a culture that makes personal gratification the highest good.

I don't know of any on the left that attack "Family Structure". I don't know any on the left that attack "religious beliefs". We DO attack what appears to be the war against women, (mothers, daughters, sisters...RIGHTS and freedoms etc.). We DO attack religious beliefs that don't take into consideration the religious (or non-) religious beliefs of OTHERS...simply because that is in our Constitution. Just seems ...American...to me.

The family is the basic unit of society and is where children are socialized and inculcated with their parents morals and values. Traditional families are an anathema to the liberal left, since they contravene the moral relativism which is the driving force behind liberalism.

As a socialist I am quite happy with the family. I believe that the family is the basis of Gods plan for us. I do not think that is necessarily a patriarchal family, matriarchal works too. Nor do I think a family is limited to a husband, wife and children. It works best if it is what we call an extended family with grandparents, and uncles and aunts.

By becoming a mobile society spread all over the country and soon the world we have harmed that structure. It is a cost to freedom that we must recognize. I am not saying we should change the way we live. The world has become a small place and will get smaller. But we should come up with ways to reduce the cost.
