Why do we teach young women that a fetus isn't a baby?

Gracie - Proud Conservative 2012/04/15 01:08:06
The term "fetus" means "little one", not blob of cells. If we didn't teach young women that their unborn child wasn't a baby perhaps they'd have second thoughts about aborting it. When you have to lie about something it's usually because it's unethical and immoral. I think abortion is one of those cases.

Well, make certain not to kill any cells today- or else you'll be charged with murder.

Pregnant women can abort as many fetuses as they choose to.

Whenever a woman chooses to have an abortion they call the baby a "fetus". Whenever a woman has a miscarriage they say "lost the baby". People sometimes have funerals and burials for miscarried babies. I guess it's onlt a baby when it's convenient.

Maybe because those mothers who lost a potential child of theirs are too overcome with grief to worry about using the proper name for it?

That's my point. It's a baby if you want it and a fetus if you don't. That's hypocritical.

It's not. It's still a foetus if you want it. But most people who lose a foetus they were planning to keep had already started imagining that foetus as the baby it was going to be after birth.

Oh come on, it doesn't matter how you spin it, people choose the terminology that they feel will justify their actions.

No they do not. If you check out all the medical book, you will find out exactly what the terminology really is.

I don't know about other potential parents, but I know that if I ever miscarried I would still refer to it as a foetus.

The point is that many who miscarry at a very early stage in their pregnancy when teh fetus is only extremely tiny, still refer to it as a baby when it does not even resemble anything that looks even remotely like a baby at all.

The grief is about an idea, not the reality.

A few cells is not a child either. If a pro-fetus was the least bit worried about children there would not be over 140,000 children in foster care today that will never have a loving family of their own.

The real question isn't why we don't call it a baby, but rather why we don't call it a human.

Ever pricked one with a needle?
At one time we did not believe that plants or even lower animals felt pain but recent discoveries ave shown this to be false. Many scientist now theorize that a fetus can feel pain as early as 12 weeks with the developement of the Pons and Hypocampus wich make up our 'primitive brain'.

New Study Denying Fetal Pain Lacks Scientific Basis Pro-Life Groups Say

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) – A new study from members of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists lacks a strong scientific basis and ignores the evidence supplies in several previous studies supplied by leading researchers in the field, say pro-life groups who are criticizing the new report.

As LifeNews.com reported last week, the new study, from a Working Party of RCOG, disputes an overwhelming body of evidence that unborn children can feel pain in utero.

The new study claims the nerve connections to the brain are not fully developed to the point at which babies before birth have the ability to feel pain.

While claiming fetal pain doesn’t begin until late in pregnancy, the doctors also suggest that, after 24 weeks into the pregnancy, unborn children are in a state of "continuous sleep-like unconsciousness or sedation."

I have pricked a 24 week gestation baaby with a needle to do a blood gas and it reacted.
    ecmo baby
This one is a bit further along than that but I have worked with a few 24 wekk gestations. They are wrong.
Studies using ultrasounds have shown that a fetus reacts to stimulation in the womb. For example, neurobiologist M. Fitzgerald reported in "Neurobiology of Fetal and Neonatal Pain" (1994) that at 7.5 weeks' gestation, a fetus responds to stimuli. Around 10.5 weeks, a fetus whose mouth region is touched will bend his or her head in response, and the palms of the hands become sensitive to stroking. The rest of the body and legs become sensitive at approximately 13.5 weeks

I agree wholeheartedly. I'm a mother of 2 and am 24 weeks pregnant with baby number 3. My baby responds to my touch. When I touch my tummy my baby moves in response. If I pat the left side the baby moves to the right etc. or sometimes kicks at the spot where I have patted. Now tell me that if she didn't feel anything how would she know to move? Also when there is a loud noise she jumps, and even gets hiccups as a result of a fright from noises! So if she is what these abortionists claim then how can she react? I know when my baby is sleeping and when she's awake as I feel her movements changing. If I eat ice cream she feels the cold and becomes aggitated and kicks wildly even if I know she was sleeping before I ate it. So she most definately has a sense of feeling. My baby responds to her father's voice when spoken to through my tummy, she begins kicking when she hears him.

"At the end of the fourth week, the embryo is 1/8th of an inch in length and it weighs less than three hundredths of an ounce. The embryo has grown 10,000 times bigger than the original egg on the day of fertilization.

The second four weeks of development is a time of extremely rapid and crucial development as the embryo quadruples in size. Its cells are constantly differentiating to form new structures. The brain begins controlling the movement of muscles and organs. The brain waves can be detected and recorded."
