Why Do We Never See Any Third Party Candidates In The Debates?

What is fair about our Political Election System? We only see Debates were Republicans and Democrats debate each other. It seems to me that they are so much alike that there should be other options in Political Parties to vote for. I know there are several other Political Parties that have been around for awhile. I would like to know more about them because I refuse to vote for the incapable candidates that we have to choose from of the Democrats and Republicans.

The Debates so far have been to elect the Republican Party Candidate. So no they should not be open to anyone but the republican candidates. When it comes time for the General election, then the debates should be open to all Candidates. The problem is that they are controlled by the 2 Major parties, and they don't want to let anyone else play.

The only way the debates can be fair is for them to be open to all Candidates!

    ross perot in 92

It's been a while since '92. Before Perot, there was John Anderson... in '84, I think. Other than those two, I can't think of any third party candidate that was allowed in the debates.

Third parties simply cannot garner enough support to compete in a winner take all system. The last time a 3rd party candidate won the Presidency was 1860, and it replaced the Whig Party. Personally, I think the right wing party is due for replacement.

However, if the debate is a Republican or Democrat, why would other parties expect to be invited? I'd wait to see what occurs after the conventions and post the same question.

I am Nonpartisan and i would like to see a Nonpartisan Candidate!! then i would vote for them. It is hard to trust either the Democrats or Republicans, they like to play dirty and not fair.

There will always be only a hair's worth of difference between parties in a winner take all system. When the electorate swings right, so does the left-wing party and vice-versa. What is wierd, is that right now, the country is tilting left, and the Republicans are pushing harder to the right. This does not bode well for those who want to see Obama be a one term President.

How much do you want to change the Constitution? I just do not see how such a large federal system could be organized around percentile representation.

There are third party candidate debates, but the establishment won't let third parties into the debates with Republican and Democrat candidates unless they want them there. Former Conservative Committee Chairman, Joel Skousen, has talked about how Third party candidate Perot was possibly let into the debates in 1992, so he could take votes away from George H. W. Bush to allow Clinton who had become the establishment's preferred candidate to win.

Because these are Republican debates to get our canidate. Third partys have your own debates and get someone to watch or show them. Now why in the hell there are so many I don't understand because they pick the best at saying nothing the best

The mechanism for the "rigging" is called "district representation." To have a real multi-party system, you have to have "percentile representation." They do this in most countries, but they are not as large as the US, and do not have a federal system with powerful state governments.

Good question! And here is another ...

Why do we allow the lying treasonous media to control the agenda and the questions?
  • UrbanHi... ConLibF... 2012/01/24 06:52:08

Because there is little independent media. Hopefully, the internet will replace television. I just don't know what will replace the radio. Much political indoctrination takes place in the car.

Not quite. The media should be there to report! Not moderate!!! Period!!!
  • UrbanHi... ConLibF... 2012/01/24 18:23:37
    UrbanHillbilly
The media never existed to simply report. NPR is the closest thing to that ideal, but the editors and hosts cannot completely remove their personal feelings from the product. Mostly, we have pure political indoctrination media. ABC, NBC, the NYT, and a host of other outlets make up a tiny fraction of the market. These produce the same corperate dribble as CNN. CNN, despite its market share, produces so little news that it is scary. It mainly produces meaningless political dribble to knock whatever candidate is not buying enough commercial time. The PBS Newshour isn't any better, just lacks production quality.

NPR and PBS buy a lot of news programing from the BBC, but the BBC doesn't really generate that much news for the American market. We can produce our own dribble, thank you very much.

The rest is 100% political indoctrination. MSNBC exists, because NBC wants to exploit the underserved liberal market. The tiny amount of cheap programming on that network is absurd. Most everything else, including newspapers, magazines, radio, and Fox News is NewsCorp. The power of that company absolutely staggers the imagination.

Personally, I'd like a lot more independent sources. I don't like people trying to tell me what to think.

The RNC and DNC have done a smashing job at keeping our choices to TWO....and only TWO parties. Ross Perot tried to break the streak.....and look what it got him.
There should be a movement to register and allow a third....and even a fourth party...if warranted....just like there should be a movement for term limits......for our political representatives.......and no earmarks.....and on and on......but don't hold your breath....it isn't likely to happen anytime soon.......sad to say! The DIE is CAST!
  • UrbanHi... Yo'Adri... 2012/01/24 06:55:31

There is a two party system in any country with district representation. A winner take all system guarrenties that a 3rd party will only harm its own constituency. Perhaps some kind of elaborate run-off system (they do exists in some places) would help.
