Why do some keep bringing up reparations, when most Black Americans haven't even considered that thought?

Many ignorant comments by people who either purposely try to paint a false picture due to their own insecurities or are just use to parroting something they heard from race baiting media/politicians.

Whatever the reasoning is, it is becoming quite apparent that many need to either pick up a book or engage in a conversation with Black individuals before spouting off at the mouth.

Case in point the link I gave for an example; one states ship them back to Africa, another states they need to get off their lazy a**es. All in all; how can one go back to where they have never been and do these two people even know the stats on those who work?

Let me lay some facts down for the ignorant:

ship africa lazy aes people stats work lay facts ignorantship africa lazy aes people stats work lay facts ignorantship africa lazy aes people stats work lay facts ignorantship africa lazy aes people stats work lay facts ignorantship africa lazy aes people stats work lay facts ignorant

"According
to the US Census Bureau, 68.1% of all Black men and 62.3% of Black women over
the age of 16 are in the civilian labor force, compared to 73% of white men, and
59.9% of white women.
Of the 42.0 million Blacks in this nation, 8.1 million have
incomes below the poverty line."

Who knows? Why do some people still argue about the black welfare mother having babies to collect more government checks, or use the Black Panthers as an example of rampant hatred toward whites, or complain that black people can use the word cracker but they can't use the word n**ger, or get upset because the gif of Obama as an ape they posted was taken as racist by someone? I suspect the answer is all of the above.

I have noticed a thought process many people share on this site and it is usually the kind of person we're talking about. They seem to think their personal opinions are as valid as facts and must be treated with respect no matter what that opinion is. Because they have the right to say it, that alone makes if right.

How many polls have you done similar to this Latrice? Full of facts, logical, well reasoned, with all the back up sources given. And how many times has someone argued that you are wrong with nothing to add besides, "I don't agree!"

Some people are just stuck on stupid - It is just a way for those who are deeply bigoted and lacking real independent thoughts to justify their bigotry and to act as though they are the true victims..they hang on to that popular lie..and retell it to all of their like minded friends...and they all bitch and moan and wallow around in harmony about how they will have to pay restitution to black people who weren't even slaves..in some people's minds..the only real racism is reverse racism...they are ignorant..and completely buy into it..even though I have never heard a black person say anything about wanting compensated..these are the same type of people that believe any ridiculous email or facebook status without ever researching it..as long as it fits into their idea that they are being persecuted..it's just annoying.

I confess, I didn't read your entire post/poll. The way your question was worded, sickened me, seemed hypocritical. And as stated, this is the first time I've seen it brought up since before the election. Then the question was ''would barack push for reparations.''
Now here is something valid I bring to the table.
It would seem that Black's (as a whole) biggest claim to fame is being descendants of slaves. Any time one rises to the top but doesn't adhere to the democrat's ideology that blacks can only do so thru the democrat party, the Black community calls them a 'sell out' or 'uncle tom'.
You do understand that Race baiters like Jessie and Sharpton would be out of a job if there were no racism and it's in their interest to prolong it, yes?

The biggest claim to fame for Black Americans is not slavery and the facts that you stated that shows you don't know anything about Black Americans past struggles, and achievements despite that.

    I'll make a few references:

How about being a double spy for the U.S during the Revolutionary war? James Armistead, who tricked the Brits, and was able to find out their plans, coordinates and strategy that won us the war.

What about the Black men and women who also helped this country win its independents yet weren't given their own afterwards for a real long time.

Or maybe many of the Black scientists who helped make NASA and the Manhattan project a success, but I'm sure you never heard of that.

Or maybe having our businesses and town overrun constantly and yet never asking for compensation on what was lost. The lists is a very very long one.

Now the Democratic party and Republicans are currently cut from the same cloth, and the rest of what you stated is the problem.

I didn't know Jesse and Al spoke for 42 million Black people; I guess I can say David Dukes speaks for 200 million White Americans. Ridiculous, right?

I honor everyone of the Black Men and Women you mention but if you went to a Black neighborhood, how many of them would even recognize the names of the Black roll models?
They all know Jessie and Sharpton.
They are more likely to identify with rap artist that sing about bitches and cop killers than good roll models.

''Or maybe having our businesses and town overrun constantly'' Say what?
    Who's doing that? When? Where?

More people like yourself should step forward and let the rest of America that Jessie and Sharpton do not speak for you.

How do you know this? I doubt you know 42 million Black Americans, and neither do I, but I know for certain the overwhelming majority that I know do.

    "Who's doing that? When? Where?"

18th, 19th and 20th century repeatly; Tulsa, Northstar Minnesota, NY, it's all in the history books.

"More people like yourself should step forward and let the rest of America that Jessie and Sharpton do not speak for you."

I don't have to step forward for anything; must I step forward for every Black person that voices idiotic opinions I don't agree with? No. I don't own any television networks, I'm not a talking head and there are plenty of people who have come forth to debate their views. That is like me saying you need to go and speak up more pertaining to David Duke, or Michael Savage. Since they are White, whatever they say reflects your thoughts/opinion and you must come forth.

Not trying to be rude 0, but that is just how I see it. Only 8.1 million Black Americans live below the poverty line and 34 million are from lower middle class to rich. (All are individuals)

The networks do not run to get David Duke's comments, like they do from those two racebaiters. When we did hear Dukes comments on the tube, they were portrayed as over the top, which they were.
Sharpton and Jessie are held up by the networks as being spokesmen. Obviously you don't see them that way so have you ever contacted the media to let the know, they don't speak for you? I certainly would about duke if he were portrayed as my spokesman.

He has a radio show, a Youtube subscription to follow his video and has been constantly in the media; also David Duke claims to be White people spokesman so it must be true. Once again, absurd. (Michael Savage also claims to speak for White people.)

I rarely have time to watch television; I only catch certain specials and read mostly from books and the net. Most people in all demographics are busy and aren't glued to the television waiting on what Al/Jesse has to say. As I stated before, not the spokes person for 42 million Black American and most are too busy to care.

You must be joking; there were White riots in the 70's, and 80's as well. Black Americans have had only about 5 major riots in history; White Americans rioting record reaches 100. Um the Indian population is small, they to had riots, because of government and racial hatred pointed towards them once again.

"Too funny! Pet Dogs have youtube subscriptions and Duke's radio has exactly How Many Listeners?"

Funny how you state this, when you previously made a comment about him not having anything recent on Youtube, no news coverage etc...All of which I proved to be false. Michael Savage is a race baiter, Fox news are race baiters, and the list goes on and on. Nice try, but no cigar.

"In every instance that Blacks and Black business has been effected, it was blacks that were rioting."

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the reality is many White Americans were the ones stone walling Black businesses. All of the damage repeatedly done, had to be built back up by the same community over and over again until things became so dangerous they ended up packing. As you can see the towns that were successful and predominantly Black are now predominately White. Basically benefiting from the past hard work of those who came before them.

Same thing happened to my grandfather in North Carolina; he had to move because the Klan and the racist folks near by just couldn't stand to see him doing well. So they vandalized his shop and land repeatedly and one close death encounter that he had to fled for his life. Consequently the thieves ended up taking over what "HE" worked hard for.

Um yes I can; Black Americans made strive, great contributions and sacrifices for a country that constantly took away what they earned and spat on them. Even so, most never asked for a damn dime back and most just want to be treated equal, not better or worse.

It is so funny how many want to focus on an issue that most Black Americans thought was buried and done away with. America has given to Native Americans, Japanese Americans, Chinese Americans, Jewish Americans and so on; reparations that were given for their collective hardship as a group. Black Americans never were given reparation for their Constitutional Rights being held away from them from before 1776 through the 1970's and yet we didn't beg nor asked.

First off.... I'M not focusing on blacks or any other group. YOU posted the question, I answered it.

Secondly, I feel for your grandfather and the countless other blacks who suffered and I think it is commendable that they had such pride that they wouldn't push for compensation. That was truly a great, selfless generation.

You are much like my next-door neighbor and most of my other black friends....you would not DREAM of accepting "conscience money" as payment for atrocities that took place decades and centuries ago. But I do have a co-worker who believes that she has a right to be compensated - even though her family has been prosperous for generations.

I said that many blacks are FOR reparations and you say that is not true. I prove that black congressmen are pushing for the legislation, black lawyers are suing companies who have slavery histories, various black groups are speaking out in support, and still you deny. I'm not pointing fingers or anything...but facts are facts. Who do you think is keeping this issue alive? Whites?

What does many equate to out of 42 million, and why do you keep bringing up politicians as if they speak for a total population?

If we are going to play that game, then I could say many Whites wanted welfare which is why it was implemented. How many in White, Native, Jewish etc...wanted reparations/privileges from government and that is why they were given it.

"Why do some keep bringing up reparations, when most Black Americans haven't even considered that thought?"

Time and time again this bill gets voted down, yet it keeps getting mentioned as if it will pass.

There is another reparation act that has more of a chance of getting pass than any Black Slavery reparation bill, yet many don't seem to get that nor care.

Yes I do believe some Whites constantly bring it up and I've never heard anyone who is Black on/off the site bring up reparations. Some people keep bringing up reparations pertaining to Black Americans for the same reason they try to lie and pretend there is only a Black history month; ignorance.

    >>"I've never heard anyone who is Black on/off the site bring up reparations."

Then I'm sorry to say this but "you're just not listening". One example was right in the factcheck link you sent me: "The fact is that Rep. John Conyers, a Detroit Democrat, has introduced a version of this bill in every Congress since 1989."

So there it is....Conyers is black, not white. So a BLACK Congressman has been introducing a reparations bill for the last 23 years. Have you never heard Jessie Jackson or Al Sharpton call for them? Back in 2001, www.blackvoices.com did a survey of their readers and found that 75% of those who responded thought that the country should pay reparations for slavery. http://www.digitalhistory2.uh...

And you've never heard the NAACP suing corporations for them?

You're not comprehending me; all of your links shows less than 1% are advocates of reparations. 730 people out of 42 million doesn't even put a dent in it.

Not 730 out of 43 million. 730 out of the 968 black people who saw the poll on www.blackvoices.com and responded to it...that makes 75% of those surveyed. You DO understand how polls work don't you? NOBODY has time to poll all 42 million African Americans in this country.

Here is another small poll from 2012 (500 - 700 people) and it shows that 59% want SOME kind of compensation and the other 41% don't want any.

You want a bigger poll? The larger the sampling...the better the accuracy, right? You won't like this one...it proves you even more wrong. It was taken in 2002 and they surveyed 6,680 African Americans from Atlanta, Kansas City, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, Ore., San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Houston, New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Columbia, S.C., and Jacksonville, Fla. It came back with 89% of black people wanting some kind of slavery reparation from the U.S. government.

So while I think it's fantastic that you don't want any...I hate to break the bad news - you may be in the minority.

SMH Um duh Jack; I saw the poll and stated the obvious fact that it is no where close to 42 million and 730/968 doesn't cut it.

"While the survey failed to ask whether or not blacks think whites should pay for reparations, 80 percent of those surveyed said white Americans, even though they did not own slaves, continue to be enriched from the unpaid labor of slaves."

"Respondents were also encouraged to write in their own ideas on how reparations should be paid, including restitution to those who invested in the Freedmen’s Bureau Bank, which folded during the Reconstruction Era. Some have also called for incorporating more African-American history into school curriculum and providing more subsidies to black farmers."

"As part of any reparations deal, 70 percent of blacks said the president should apologize on behalf of the federal government for the years of Jim Crow discrimination."

Nice try, but you proved me right once again; the poll asked them to write in their own perception of reparations. Some stated jus...

Nice try, but you proved me right once again; the poll asked them to write in their own perception of reparations. Some stated just more Black Americans history inducted into education, some just an apology and the list goes on. So far the first one is B.S, because it just has a group of people that isn't even half of 1% of the total Black population and the second one asked to write in their own perception of reparations and many stated things that didn't equate to money.

The third poll even more hilarious how you put up these polls without reading the context: 500/700

8.) Do you believe that reparations, in any form, will ever be paid?

9.32 percent of our participants voted, “Yes, it’s inevitable.”

58.17 percent voted, “No, and it’s time that we moved on.”

32.51 percent voted, “Anything is possible if we fight for it.”

    Thank you very much:

You said nothing in all that to refute the FACT that more than half the blacks in any survey answer that they support some form of reparations. So much for your "only some White talking heads and SH's are painting this imaginary picture of Black Americans wanting reparations". Imaginary? Guess again.

LOL! You gave me polls that actually proved my point:

    1) Two polls was less than 1/2 of a percent of the Black population.

    2) The second poll less than 1% as well, and asked what do they perceive reparations to be; most just stated an apology or education on Black history.

    3) You in fact proved that some Whites are spinning it to distribution of payment and it is a fallacy.

    Lastly thank you again.
