I grew up with very religiously open people, and grew up in a Unity church. I believe all religions are correct in some ways, and misinformed in others. In the end, it's not religion that matters to me, its my spirituality and when I feel closest to the Higher Power of my understanding. I think the world would be better if we could be open to differences, and learning from other beliefs.

People don't want to be wrong, and in their arrogance they will continually say only their way is correct, belittling others' beliefs in the process.

You ar right, and everyone wants to believe they are right about this most important issue.

But there have been and awful lot of wars over it and still are....as long as there are extremists who take up a weapon and intend to harm others in the name of their "religion", this will never end. How, where or when I worship is my personal business and I don't force it on anyone.
FTR; I don't think God is real happy with ANY of us right now.

good, that is how it should be. As for extremists, it's their time to take center stage, and what will follow is a long hard road home. But the Scriptures are true, and that must happen, and is.
I wholeheartedly agree... none of us should be asking for praise right now... :-)

Because they have not done a thorough study of the Bible! I do not believe in religion but I do not judge those that do. I believe in a true faith in God our creator.

A thorough bible study is quite a commitment, well done. As for religion, if it isn't faith based and spiritual, I can do without it, too. Check my blog entry. Youo might find it interesting, thanks.

Because they've been brainwashed to do so.
If you tell someone something is the right way from birth, and you stress the issue, then the result is "god is the way"..?

Not such a bad outcome... but I agree that brainwashing to obtain it is unfair to the person being denied the ability to choose.

A relationship with God can be as personal and intimate as you want. If you want to trade the Romanesque cathedral with it's ornately carved walls and impossibly tall steeple for a dead stump by the creek where the deer drink, more power to 'ya. *grin*

Didn't you know that only four footed creatures and fish can worship where deer drink? :-) Not so... But here's the thing. Which is better?

Tough call... standing in the forest / near a cliff / on the ocean beach... you witness first hand what miracles are possible. Other times while sitting among the believers on Sunday morning you feel the love and energy of that belief...

Only those of the Judeo-Christian faith feel this way.

The path I walk I feel it is right for me & me alone. I feel no need to tell someone else that my way is the right way.

Ahhh... not so. Mohammed taught his followers that all outside the faith were not only wrong, but infidels, and needed to be erased before they polluted his followers. More wars have been fought for religious differences than one wants to recall... and all types of religions. Judeo-Christians come in mny forms, and although some of them have their minds VERY closed some are quite open. And I agree with you that we are all entitled to find our own way to God.

If there religions teaches that others should be erased then, it sounds like they are saying that it is wrong to worship another faith.

Does that mean if it is a half glass, it's just as worthwhile to pray to it half full or half empty? Suppose attitude mattered... would it be half a glass of love being fulfilled, or half a glass being drained? would positive or negative matter, and if so, which one and how?

Good point. Everyone is entitled to their own thoughts and their own worship, and to be free to decide that for themselves. So I ask you ... what if someone has the 'real truth'... should they keep it to themselves or share it in an inoccuous manner?
  • Maddie MattieJaye 2009/06/01 18:30:56

I think you can talk about it but I don't think you should force your thoughts and views on anyone that does not want to learn.. I know what I believe and and I like what I believe and I don't want someone trying to change my mind.

I don't personally believe that my spiritual views are the only correct ones, but most "religious" people are taught to be narrow-minded and self-righteous, therefor their way is the only "right" way.

Yes, how (unfortunate and ) true. There is quite a differene between religion and spirituality. Although I agree with that thought wholeheartedly, I also believe that a religious standard in practice among openminded people is the finest combination of the two. Pharasees believe in their own righteousness. Spirit filled people believe in the righteousness of God.

I wholeheartedly concur. I know many religious Christians who are very loving, open-minded, forgiving people. When religion and spirituality are intwined, you often find the two complement one another well. Sadly, that doesn't happen often...
