Why do gays hijack the black civil rights struggle ?

You hear it all the time: Gay activists claim that their push for gay marriage, added legal protections, gay affirmative action, and more gay rights are all the legacy of the African American struggle for Civil Rights.

Really?

Let me ask you: Is a gay pride parade the moral equivalent of the black civil rights marches in the South in the 1950s and 1960s ? When black leaders were being sprayed with firehoses, beaten with police clubs, and attacked by dogs, was their struggle the same as gays parading around half-naked on a float?

IS THIS …

THE SAME AS THIS …

...? NO!

Should someone have consulted with Rosa Parks to let her know that when she refused to move to the back of the bus, she was actually standing up for gay marriage, not just for ending segregation?

When Rosa Parks defied the law, her fate and the outcome of her cause were uncertain. In San Francisco, the issue of gay rights has been settled in every area but marriage. As Jesse Jackson noted, gays always could vote and enjoyed other rights. The only question left is whether same-sex marriage can be called marriage -- and there are plenty of gay people who don't care about the outcome.”

http://articles.sfgate.com/2004-02-23/opinion/17414431_1_rosa...

To quote Barb Davis White:

“ROSA PARKS DID NOT MOVE TO THE FRONT OF THE BUS TO SUPPORT SODOMY.”

Forget for a minute the irony that statistically, most of the openly gay “districts” in the USA are predominately white and high-income. San Francisco’s Castro, New York’s West Greenwich Village and Chelsea… WHITE, WHITE, WHITE – and wealthy. Rich whites taking over the movement of poor blacks ? Hmmmm… no irony there?

It seems like the homosexual rights movement is hijacking the work of leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for their own agenda that has less to do with equality and more to do with destroying decency.

Here’s some more irony for you to chew on:

Most minority voters in California opposed gay marriage by voting Yes on Prop 8. This shocked the hell out of gay activists who chant the line that gay civil rights are a continuation of black civil rights. Well, seems that blacks don’t agree. Turns out Hispanics and Blacks, while they often vote Democrat, do have some essentially conservative values when it comes to family matters and protecting marriage.

http://pewresearch.org/pubs/1375/gay-marriage-civil-unions-op...

Want another irony?

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference, which is the group founded by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (a Republican by the way), is still black and…anti-gay marriage. SCLC took a moral stand against gay marriage, and they were blasted by liberals and gay radicals for doing so, but they stuck to their beliefs like they always have.

http://articles.latimes.com/2009/jul/11/local/me-sclc11

Seems to me it is tantamount to racism for white gays to hijack the black struggle for civil rights for their own public relations purposes. It is convenient for gays to steal the thunder of a movement that endured firehoses and attack dogs to gain basic rights like voting and equal education.

Black civil rights and homosexual rights are two very different things. One has nothing to do with another.

The black struggle for desegregation, voting rights, and employment rights are on a much higher moral level than gay marriage.

I respectfully disagree with you, your Anti-gay bias attitude blind you to comprehend what civil rights mean. The African Americans struggle was based on race. The GLBT(a multiracial group) is straggling for civil rights based on gender. Different but at the same time similar. That’s why it’s called Gays are the new Blacks. Equal rights is the common denominator. Gay parades are an expression of freedom and fun similar to mardi gras or Rio’s Carnival, again your anti-gay bias does not allow you to reason. You may don’t care but a little bit of history may help. On Friday evening, June 27, 1969, the New York City tactical police force raided a popular Greenwich Village gay bar, the Stonewall Inn. Raids were not unusual in 1969; in fact, they were conducted regularly without much resistance. However, that night the street erupted into violent protest as the crowds in the bar fought back. The backlash and several nights of protest that followed have come to be known as the Stonewall Riots.

Homophobia is most often manifested in Discrimination. still a great deal of subtle anti-homosexual discrimination. Is an unspoken daily straggle of the GLBT people from Childhood to adulthood. Because of this, many homosexuals still fear being fired from their jobs, denied housing, or harassed in various ways. Extreme cases of homophobia have resulted in cases in which a person was murdered because of their actual or perceived homosexuality. Homosexuals were one of the groups persecuted under the Nazi regime. As many as 600,000 homosexuals died in the Holocaust but conveniently society does not talk about it. In our society gay bashing is very common; murder is the most extreme manifestation of homophobia, and occurs relatively infrequently (though often homophobic ally-based attacks are not reported or prosecuted as such). Much more common are cases of non-fatal beatings, shootings, stabbings, and other assaults, including verbal assaults and bullying. Fear of physical violence is widespread among homosexuals, Even urban environments are not always safe, as it is not unknown for gangs of youths to travel into gay communities in search of targets. Homophobia also harms non-gay people as well. Extremist far-right conservative and religious groups use anti-gay bias
to further their political goals. Anti-gay bias leads everyone compromise
their morals and treat others badly. Anti-gay bias causes young people to engage in sexual behavior earlier
in order to prove that they are straight. Anti-gay bias contributed
significantly to the spread of the AIDS epidemic. Anti-gay bias inhibits
the ability of schools to create effective honest sexual education
programs that would save children's lives and prevent STD’s. I can go on and on.

In this case the issue is why gays hijack the "black struggle" as if it is the same thing. As to gay "marriage" we should allow a civil union. NOT marriage. Same legal rights, but marriage is a religious institution and SHOULD be one man one woman IMO. But let the individual states decide and allow people to "vote with their feet" as this country was set up to do!!

All that aside you misused gender and that is what I replied to address.

Marriage and civil union are not equal, it’s segregation, we are discriminating a group to enjoy the benefits of marriage just because they happen to be attracted to their same gender. Why we are hijacking “marriage” exclusively for the straight population if Originally "marriage" was a private, binding contract between clans (families) to form an alliance, thereby increasing the clan's chances for survival in war against rival clans. A "dowry" was given by each clan to "seal the deal". Marriage was contractual, considered a passing of "property" between clans as a symbol of intention to honor the agreement being made. Property took many forms: cattle, land, children, whatever was considered to be of great value at the time.
In modern times in the United States, before a legal marriage ceremony can be performed, one must obtain a marriage license from government authorities. When a legally married couple seeks a divorce they must go before a judge to have the marriage annulled. Ministers and priests do not issue legally binding marriage licenses, nor do they have the legal authority to grant a divorce. In your perfect world you right we have only two genders male and female. But we also know that Gay is a gender-specific term for a homosexual men, wrongly used for homosexual women, however lesbian is a gender-specific term for a homosexual women. the word homosexuality in the original sense, it describes a sexual orientation characterised by lasting aesthetic attraction, romantic love, or sexual desire exclusively for others of the same sex or gender.

Darlin GOD made up marriage!! HE makes the rules. The decisions however should be left up to the individual states as the founders wished. I am all for allowing a civil union, but marriage is between ONE MAN and ONE WOMAN.

The origins of marriage is NOT religious, nor does it have anything to do with the God of the Abrahamic religions. It was around way before organized religion which by Christian standards means it is PAGAN. Christians "borrowed" many pagan rites and rituals so Pagans would convert more readily and easily to Christianity. should be a federal decision, other wise the tyrany of the majority will always prevail, there are too many of us blinded by ignorance that don’t hesitate to deprive the civil rights of our fellow taxpayers American Citizens just because we don’t agree with their sexual orientation..

Yes, I believe you could go "on and on" and you would still be just as wrong! I am a "Gay basher" for all the reasons that you failed to mention! I am NOT "homophobic" nor am I "biased". Those are words that sick, homosexuals use to explain away why others choose to "pick on them". They tend to twist their own wrongs into something acceptable while labeling others as having some kind of mental problem, refusing to accept the fact that they are truly the ones that have the mental problem. If you think that one man sticking his dick in another man's ass is normal then I hope the spread of AIDS will continue to take all you sickos straight to hell! And that is NOT because I believe in Heaven and Hell, for I am NOT religious, but is merely an expression to get you to understand that I really and truly have NO problem with all of you dying an early and painful death. As for using taxpayer dollars to cure AIDS, I wish I could sue the government for misappropriation of MY money!

homosexuality is not just about sex, homosexuals are part of our own families. AIDS does not discriminates, what abaut cancer or diabetis or any other desease out there do you have any problem tax payers money going towards those researches, What about gay women, they don't have a dick, do you have a problem with them too?, Homosexuals also pay their taxes and their money is going to different researches, do you have any problem with that?

Ugh. I don't have the patience for this. I read about three paragraphs and stopped.

Just because gays want to fight for their rights doesn't mean they're saying they have the same struggles as blacks. And they're not "hi-jacking" anything. They're simply saying that all this time and money was spent on fighting a war for blacks (not that I think it's a bad thing), they just want their turn.

Oh, another point I want to bring up- Just like blacks were born black, gays were born gay.

*EDIT* Wow, blocked? Nice one. So, I'm guessing it's my fault I like girls? Think before you pick a fight with someone.

    WRONG.

Gays choose to be gay, it is a choice, not genetic.

It was called an "alternative lifestyle" before that went out of fashion. Now it's vogue to call it genetic, when in fact no major peer-reviewed study from a recognized university has proven such a thing.

Read before you comment next time.

the prestigious research journal Science published a study by Dean Hamer which claims that there might be a gene for homosexuality. Research seemed to be on the verge of proving that homosexuality is innate, genetic and therefore unchangeablea normal variant of human nature.

Same with gays their parents may thought they were straight, however when puverty came they realized they were attracted to their same gender. Why is so difficult four you to understantd?.

There's more evidence for hormonal variations in the womb being the cause. If it was truly genetic, then it wouldn't happen randomly to people with long histories of straightness, and the population would grow beyond the 6% level it's at.

You're partly right (btw it's less than 2% of the population -- but don't worry that's still a lot of people). Recent studies involving identical twins lean toward there being a myriad of environmental and inherited factors which may contribute to the appearance of homosexual self-identification (or gender dysphoria).

I think a lot of folks want to reduce the question to a philosophical "yes" or "no" question by hijacking medical terminology that they have little real understanding of. That is this notion that if there were some simple "gay gene" it would negate all negative connotations. But that is nonsense.

Researchers have identified simple genes that cause pancreatitis, Huntington's disease, Rett Syndrome, Nance-Horan Syndrome, and cystic fibrosis, among other things. Links to multiple genes have been found for other diseases such as breast cancer. Not everything that arises from genetics is desirable.

In fact, cause has no relation whatever to the value of any thing (if no religious person challenges this I must assume none have read it).

Arguing over a fact is the most pointless debate ever. You can NOT prove that being gay is a choice rather than genetic, because you yourself are (probably) not gay. He can NOT prove that being gay is genetic, because while he might feel that he was born that way, he could be mistaken and science has yet to back either of you.
This point is one of the main reasons why its so hard to argue gay rights. To gays it seems obvious that their sexual preferences is innate, and to people like you it seems obvious that their sexual preferences is a choice.

Long story short; just stop arguing with people about this until science can definitely prove things one way or another.

Cite me one academic research paper published in a peer-reviewed university science journal that conclusively proves that homosexuality determined by genetics is a "fact."

Quoting gay pop magazines and blogs does not count. You are pushing speculation and faith, not science.

Gay is a choice, not genetic. Get over it.
