It is indeed tiring. I find it hard to believe that people can still be so intolerant/racist/ homophobic until I see some of the comments on here. It's worse in the politics section. I can't express my opinions without being accused of being "Dummycrat", for supporting a libertarian conservative candidate, being called a liberal (as if it's an insult), being called retarded, misinformed, or a "Kool-aid drinker" or being mocked for supporting the idea of voting for the guy who stands for something instead of the guy who looks most likely to win. They don't like my opinions simply because I don't agree with theirs. My opinions may not be completely correct but they are, in many respects, more correct than theirs.

I think that is a little unfair. Because a person is a conservative or liberal does not make the whole person. Sure there are some looney tunes here about 18 or so last count based upon abnormal ideology, but a person's opinions especially politically are no better and no worse than the rest of us. The problem is taking it to the point of dividing us, we are better than that. We are United when things are tough, and should stay united in spite of the differences of parties.

Personally, I think it is because the right-wings socio-political views stem from an emotional base- religious conservatism, the exploitation of the FUD factor by right-wing parties, Weberian symbolic culture domination that presents politics as a battle for your culture rather than just between two competing sets of policies.
Liberals tend to have more intellectual connection to their beliefs- it is rational to increase welfare spending as it boosts domestic demand and is good for both businesses and individuals who have fallen on hard times in an unfair system, it is rational to nationalise health care as more people get coverage for less total cost and productivity will increase as well as human suffering be alleviated etc etc.
Therefore, these people are on a vitriolic mission to transmit what they think and demonise everyone else.

Funny. I've met a lot of filthy OWS and Hopey Changy Libs or Progressives who behave much worse here and elsewhere. Those with opinions that differ from yours often feel the need to express them, explain them, or defend them from streams of vitriol like yours.
