I'd imagine that this has something to do with it:

"Kuwait had heavily funded the 8 year long Iraqi war against Iran. By the time the war ended, Iraq was not in a financial position to repay the $14 billion it borrowed from Kuwait to finance its war. Iraq argued that the war had prevented the rise of Iranian influence in the Arab World...

According to George Piro, the FBI interrogator who questioned Saddam Hussein after his capture (in 2003), Iraq tried repaying its debts by raising the prices of oil through OPEC's oil production cuts. However, Kuwait, a member of the OPEC, prevented a global increase in petroleum prices by increasing its own petroleum production, thus lowering the price and preventing recovery of the war-crippled Iraqi economy.[8] This was seen by many in Iraq as an act of aggression, further distancing the countries. The collapse in oil prices had a catastrophic impact on the Iraqi economy. According to former Iraqi Foreign Minister Tariq Aziz, "every US$1 drop in the price of a barrel of oil caused a US$1 billion drop in Iraq's annual revenues triggering an acute financial crisis in Baghdad."

Makes it kinda hard to feel bad for the Kuwaitis when they funded a war which killed nearly a million people... but then again, we supported Iraq during that war too.

Everyone sucks, there are no simple answers, and "common knowledge" about pretty much any war is usually just a mess of whatever propaganda we've been sold. The slant drilling excuse was probably just a bullshit justification for Iraq to throw off that debt and grab some functioning ports, but Kuwait also had some pretty massive advertising and public relations firms working for them in the US to influence our view of that conflict.

Officially that is what was said, However He was keeping his countrymen from finding out what he really was and to keep them down, he attacked Kuwait. or he had them to it. He was more worried about them finding out he was not as powerful as he was and really he didn't care how strong the outside world knew. He really didn't believe that for that Postage Stamp of country that the US would ever come in. Remember he had just fought a 9 year war with Iran and couldn't win.

Now that's a good question. Iraq didn't need their oil, because they have plenty of their own.
I think it's more in line with him wanting to flex his muscles and rally up an imperialistic bent.

It's a difficult question. SH kept Iraq together. He had to contend with the religious nutjobs (the shia) vs the sunnis (the elite, more advanced thinkers). Then the Kurds who are always fighting even amongst each other). Iraq was a complex political balance that Bush never bothered to read up on. Now the kurds are on the Iraqi/turkish borders and piss the turks off no end, and the shia are in charge (but the sunnis are better educated and more forward-thinking). America has basically allowed the more fundamentalist shia to gain control since the deposition of Saddam, where the sunnis used to control everything (and yet the sunnis are more in line with American thinking).

No he's scum I agree. But so Mao and we put him into office So look at us now here we are in bed with China. The Empire State Building lit up in communist China's Colors marking the anniversary of this brutal regime. For God Sakes China is no better. My point is I feel bad and terrible but there are bad people and they are in charge. We cannot fix it.We need to take care of our country and the corruption we have here. Besides I would never let my child fight a war for our regime only to come back and be put on the government watch list. .
